Differential susceptibility

Other specific discovery assays have been used such as differential inhibition of a vancomycin resistant S. aureus strain and its susceptible parent, and an assay based on antagonism of the antibacterial activity by N,A/-diacetyl-L-Lys-D-Ala-D-Ala [24570-39-6] a tripeptide analogue of the dalbaheptides receptor. AppHcation of this latter test to 1936 cultures (90) led to the isolation of 42 dalbaheptides, six of which, including kibdelin (Table 3), parvodicin (Table 3), and actinoidin A2 (68) were novel. A colorimetric assay based on competition between horseradish peroxidase bound teicoplanin and the... [Pg.535]

Figure 11 shows magnetisation and differential susceptibility calculated for the rectangular and triangular distribution with = 22 k. corresponding to the finest CNT so far observed and Lf x = 942.5 A corresponding to the thickest CNT. The experimental result of ref. 15 is also included. The calculation can... [Pg.72]

The US Bureau of Mines found the chemical and galvanic corrosion behaviour of both the TZM and Mo-30W alloy to be generally equal or superior to that of unalloyed molybdenum in many aqueous solutions of acids, bases and salts. Notable exceptions occurred in 6-1 % nitric acid where both alloys corroded appreciably faster than molybdenum. In mercuric chloride solutions the TZM alloy was susceptible to a type of crevice corrosion which was not due to differential aeration. The alloys were usually not adversely affected by contact with dissimilar metals in galvanic couple experiments, but the dissimilar metals sometimes corroded galvanically. Both alloys were resistant to synthetic sea water spray at 60°C. [Pg.848]

For each EA spectrum, the transmission T was measured with the mechanical chopper in place and the electric field off. The differential transmission AT was subsequently measured without the chopper, with the electric field on, and with the lock-in amplifier set to detect signals at twice the electric-field modulation frequency. The 2/ dependency of the EA signal is due to the quadratic nature of EA in materials with definite parity. AT was then normalized to AT/T, which was free of the spectral response function. To a good approximation [18], the EA signal is related to the imaginary part of the optical third-order susceptibility ... [Pg.114]

Differential susceptibility between young and older animals has also been found regarding other end points. Studies by Sinha et al. (1995, 1997) found that oral treatment of 3-week-old male rats with... [Pg.174]

Togni s [38] approach was therefore to test the ability of sparteine to act as an ancillary ligand in Pd(II)-allyl complexes—susceptible to nucleophilic attack by stabihzed anions such as Na[CH(COOMe)2]—which could be employed as catalyst precursors. In addition he speculated that the rather rigid and bulky sparteine would be able to induce significant differentiation between the two diastereotopic sites of 1,3-disubstituted allyl hgand, thus leading to enantioselection upon nucleophilic attack. [Pg.82]

The neurointerventionalist should limit the number of microcatheter injections performed during the exam, as there is growing evidence that this may increase the chances of hemorrhagic transformation of the infarcted tissue. Direct injection of contrast into stagnant vessels, which contains injured glial cells and thus breakdown of the blood-brain barrier, allows for contrast extravasation. Contrast is readily visualized on the immediate post-thrombolysis CT as an area of high attenuation in the parenchyma. In some instances, MRI with susceptibility-weighted sequences may be useful to differentiate contrast extravasation from Such a distinction... [Pg.74]

A recent series of experiments which may be related to this concept has been reported by Prehn and Lawler (29) They treated 10 strains of mice with two different dose levels (5% and 0.05%) of 3-methylcholanthrene and observed that the rank order of susceptibility, as measured by the average number of tumor-free days, was reversed on going from the higher to the lower dose. They suggested differential stimulation of immune response as an explanation of their results but it is also possible that different dose-responses, as suggested by Druckrey s equation (equation 5), may be important. [Pg.85]
