In Cyprus, drug regulation is also organized under the Pharmaceutical Services Division. The Drug Council serves as the central committee, with the Drug Control of Quality and Supply Sector (DCQSS) under the Pharmaceutical Services Division as its Secretariat. Drug Council members are drawn from both the public and private sectors, and are appointed by the Ministerial Council. 

The National Research Council has recognized the importance of the food protection problem and the need for an organization to provide technical counsel on the utilization of new materials in the production and processing of foods. The desirability of cooperative action by industry, government, and other research organizations in providing the scientific guidance required for the protection of the food supply has been emphasized.

The classification for supply of medicinal products for human use to the public varied appreciably from one Member State to another, whereas medicinal products sold without prescription in certain Member States could be obtained only on medical prescription in others. Council Directive 92/26/EEC Concerning the classification for the supply of medicinal products for human use was adopted as an initial step towards harmonising the basic principles applicable to the classification for the supply of medicinal products in the Community or in the Member States concerned. Procurement cooperatives increases efficiency. Regional and sub-regional procurement schemes can become a credible option for ensuring medicines supplies. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States Procurement Services (OECS/PPS) successfully organize pooled procurement for six and eight countries respectively.
