Sulfur application

These demand forecasts assume that no major new uses for sulfur develop over the near term. Although a great deal of research has been devoted to developing new sulfur applications in recent years - and we believe that this work should continue - the recent and likely further rise in brimstone prices over the next few years will temporarily forestall the development of significant new markets for sulfur,... [Pg.112]

Lengthened Spray Intervals. Bayleton applied on a 3-4 week schedule in California for control of powdery mildew and 2-3 week schedule in the eastern US resulted in savings on fuel, labor, and equipment compared to the standard sulfur application schedule of 7-10 days (Table IV). [Pg.149]

Mildew and Botrytis Control. Control of mildew is the major fungicide problem in North Coast vineyards. Occurrence of mildew and botrytis affects the grape quality, and mildew has been shown to have a negative effect on wine quality (4). Mildew is controlled by sulfur applications, and nearly all North Coast vineyards receive four to six sulfur applications each year. The North Coast has less mildew and insect problems than does the San Joaquin Valley, attributable to a cooler climate and shorter insect seasons. [Pg.34]

Low temperature units are particularly susceptible to fouling in high sulfur applications. Plus, some low temperature catalysts are susceptible to particulate plugging. [Pg.1942]

Can stand periodic high-temperature upsets. Zeolite catalysts can be used for high sulfur applications. The reaction with zeolite catalysts occurs inside the molecular sieve body, rather than on the surface of a metal catalyst. This eliminates the sulfur poisoning of metallic catalysts and reduces the conversion of SO2 into SO3. [Pg.1945]

Hydraulic pressure. The pilot plant is able to spray at pressures up to 3000 psig. Theoretically, nozzle atomization efficiency increases with pressure. Therefore the most desirable conditions for sulfur application are the highest pressure attainable and the smallest nozzle available. However, filtration problems associated with the smallest nozzles com-... [Pg.59]

Dye allergens are found in the disperse, acid, azoic, basic, direct, pigment, reactive, solvent, and vat application classes. No dye allergens belong to the mordant and sulfur application classes. Almost 50% of the 70 reported dye allergens are disperse, about 20% are reactive, and 10% are acid. [Pg.623]

Vanadia is responsible for the activity of the catalyst in the reduction of NO but also for the undesired oxidation of SO2 to SO3, and accordingly its content is generally kept low, usually below 1% wAv in high sulfur applications. WO3 or M0O3 are employed in larger amounts ( 10 and 6% w/w, respectively) to increase the activity and thermal stability of 205/1 02 hence, these oxides act as chemical and structural promoters for the catalysts (2,6,37-42). It is also proposed that M0O3 prevents catalyst deactivation in the presence of As compounds in the gas, even if the mechanism of this prevention is not fully clarified yet (43-45). [Pg.1690]

An economic study by an independent engineering firm, commissioned by Union Carbide, compared the CANSOLV FGD process to five other commercial processes. Ibe processes compared were the co-current wet limestone, jet bubbler, countercurrent wet limestone, dry lime, and Wellman-Lord processes. The study showed that the economics for the CANSOLV process can be very favorable when compared with limestone processes in higji sulfur applications (Hakka et al., 1991). [Pg.596]

The most commonly used SCR catalysts are composed of metal oxides such as titania and vanadia. These are called base metal oxide catalysts to distinguish them from catalysts containing precious metals such as platinum. In base metal oxide catalysts, the vanadium controls the reactivity, but it also catalyzes SO2 oxidation. Therefore, for high-sulfur applications, the vanadium content of the catalyst elements should be minimized (Behrens et al., 1991 A). By reducing the residence time in the catalyst, i.e., increasing the area velocity. SO2 oxidation to SO3 can be reduced. At the lower gas flows associated with lower loads, less SO3 is often generated because the lower gas temperatures decrease SO3 production more than the lower area velocities increase it (Cohen, 1993). [Pg.916]
