Although a wide variety of heterocycle/side-chain combinations can be used in the Boulton-Katritzky rearrangement, among these, the most commonly used heterocycle has been the 1,2,4-oxadiazole. Loeomotor aetivity has historically been used as an index of psychostimulant effects. Simple assessment of amount of loeomotor activity can provide the basis for anatomical as well as pharmaeologieal analysis of the neural substrates that mediate the behavioral expression of stimulant action. More sophisticated behavioral measurement systems ean reeord multiple measures of activity and describe spatial and temporal patterning of loeomo-tion. In such systems, qualitative aspects of behavioral activation can be evaluated by examining the entire activity profile. A comparison of the effects of novel drugs with those produced by well-characterized substanees may lead to a better understanding of their mechanisms of action and subjective properties. 

The first principle in saving search time is to use fengle operations to serve multiple purposes. For example, references listed on sheets of paper can serve only one purpose, if one reference is listed right under the other. Lists on cards or sheets, with one reference per card or sheet, can serve several purposes. Abstracts can be added under each reference, and the cards can be rearranged by subject content, so that the typist can copy, entering items in the desired order on the final copy. A rearrangement of the cards by author can be used to produce an author index without extra work.
