Recently another novel method has been described for factor VIII gene transfer in patients with hemophilia A that avoids the use of viral vectors. The transfer was safe and well tolerated, and provided a modicum of benefit [8], Up until now the most promising strategy for factor VIII gene transfer had relied on adeno-associated virus (AAV). 

The ethnie nationalism of Aceh, sustained by a strong memory of state and of resistance to the intrusion of outsiders, had come to terms with the state nationalism of Indonesia, sustained by post-revolutionary centralism built on anti-imperial rhetoric. As Michael Keating (2001 viii, 102-33) has argued persuasively, when communities come together with different nationalist expectations and experiences, providing for differential claims on the state can be the strategy most compatible with justice and democracy. Aceh has had a very different memory of state and tradition of nationalism than have most Indonesians. Its relationship to Indonesian state nationalism is clear but distinctive. 

As noted in chapter VIII, envy could well be favored by natural selection. Some norm-guided behavior Is closely related to envy. This could provide one story. Another evolutionary story is that conformism may have been an efficient strategy of survival for our ancestors, although it later became a hindrance to progress. Perhaps this is how the leopard acquired his spots and the Ethiopian his color and perhaps not.

The assessment of antiviral activity is relatively difficult. As a result, only a few investigators have studied the influence of alkaloids on virus multiplication. Nevertheless, at least 45 alkaloids have been reported with antiviral properties (Table VIII). Only sparteine (527) and cinchonidine 142) have been tested for antiviral activities against a plant virus, the potato X virus. All other evidence for antiviral activities (Table VIII) of alkaloids comes from experiments with animal viruses. Because viral life strategies are related in plants and animals, we suggest that a wider number of plant viruses may be controlled by alkaloids in Nature than the limited data imply. 

In Section VIII, optimization strategies for the development of Hartmann-Hahn mixing sequences were discussed. These approaches rely on the quantitative assessment of a given sequence with the help of so-called quality factors. The assessment of multiple-pulse sequences is also important for the choice of practical mixing sequences (see Sections X and XI).
