Strasbourg test

The Strasbourg test is performed under much more drastic conditions of corrosion than the corrosion test described by the Swiss Waste Management Ordinance for disposal of residues in landfills for inert materials (coarsely ground samples reacted with CC>2-saturated water during 24 h at room temperature BUWAL 1990). Because of technical constraints (several HT samples cannot be cut into 4 cm2 monoliths, due to their granular nature), the MCC-1 test could not be performed with our set of samples. Nevertheless, the normalized apparent dissolution rates of HT materials (r(glass)noll ), approximated as the release rates of silicon (r(Si)norm) obtained by the Strasbourg test (100-125 pm powdered samples), are also shown on Fig. 13 for comparative puiposes. The physicians on the university faculty were not happy to see Paracelsus made a professor without their consent. So they insisted that a colloquy, a public test of the new professor s qualifications, be held. Under ordinary circumstances, a colloquy was only a formality but not this time, as Paracelsus realized when he discovered that Dr. Hock had come from Strasbourg to debate him. In the end, Paracelsus simply did not show up for the colloquy. He and his allies on the town council contended that because the council had created the position, the appointment did not have to be validated by the university. The university countered that because it had not been allowed to confirm Paracelsus s appointment, it did not have to extend any academic privileges to him.

Extraction of neptunium, plutonium, and americium from simulated radioactive liquid waste was carried out in particular with tert-butyl and dealkylated tetramers, hexamers, and octamers of calixarene [ethoxy(diphenylphosphine oxide)]. Among these six calixarenes, the highest distribution ratios were obtained with the dealkylated calix[8]arene. Using a different sample of the dealkylated hexamer, the Strasbourg group concluded that this compound is the most efficient. This discrepancy can be explained by the presence of impurities, detected by NMR, which were probably responsible for the poor performances of the dealkylated hexamer tested at Cadarache. 

Since 1990 he has been an associate professor of toxicology and head of the toxicology laboratory at the Institut de Medecine Legale et de Medecine Sociale in Strasbourg. He is chairman of the hair testing committee of the French Society of Toxicology, and in 1995, he was the guest editor of a special issue on hair analysis in Forensic Science International. He has published numerous, articles in worldwide journals.

Far from engendering the classic tug-of-war between old and modem therefore, the advent of synthetic dyes on the textile market was welcomed by the people of Mulhouse as an exciting new development which ought to be tested. A task for which the Strasbourg-bom, university-educated Rosenstiehl appeared eminently suited. 

The chapter is organised as follows. Section 2 briefly reviews the recent literature on university-industry relations. Section 3 provides an overall description of ULP Strasbourg and its contractual relationships. The descriptive analysis of the characteristics of the contracts carried out in the chemistry domain is developed in Section 4. Section 5 adopts an industrial economics approach to the analysis of entry and exit in the market or game of university-industry collaboration. In so doing we test for alternative interpretations of the changes that are occurring in university contract research behaviour. Finally, Section 6 presents the conclusions from our analysis.
