Strain, high

In many cases, less intense pressure or stress waves are encountered in which times to achieve peak pressure may be hundreds of nanoseconds or more. The study of solids under these conditions can be the source of mechanical, physical, and chemical properties of solid materials at large strain, high pressure, and high strain rates. [Pg.3]

Resistance to DDT has been developed in many insect species. Although there are some cases of metabolic resistance (e.g., strains high in DDT dehydrochlorinase activity), particular interest has been focused on kdr and super kdr mechanisms based upon aberrant forms of the sodium channel—the principal target for DDT. There are many examples of insects developing resistance to dieldrin. The best-known mechanism is the production of mutant forms of the target site (GABA receptor), which are insensitive to the insecticide. [Pg.132]

It follows that this strain amplification effect will be more important if a high structure carbon black is used. In this case, indeed, the real volume concentration of the filler will be significantly increased by the amount of occluded rubber trapped in the aggregates. At strains high enough, the occluded rubber, though anchored or... [Pg.118]

Mechanism of Resistance. Resistance to high levels of dalbaheptides has been described in enterococci. In some isolates, resistance is indutible. Transfer of resistance, in some cases plasmid-mediated, has been described. More recently, strains highly resistant to vancomycin but sensitive 10 teicoplanin have been isolated in the United States. Among the resistant... [Pg.118]

The most serious corrosion problem arose in those processes using aluminum chloride complex as the catalyst (10). Of the many factors that tended to increase corrosion, the most important were turbulence, high concentrations of hydrogen chloride, and high concentrations of free aluminum chloride. Besides welding strains, high temperature also increases corrosion, and galvanic action apparently contributes where nickel or carbon steel is welded to Hastelloy B. [Pg.235]

In simple geometry optimization, the result is sensitive to the starting geometry. A very distorted starting structure may lead to a strained high-energy optimum. A similar problem plagues automated parameter refinement. However, the problem is most serious in the initial phase of the refinement. Special techniques and frequent manual intervention may be needed until the force field has stabilized on track to the desired optimum. [Pg.19]

Even within the lepidopteran pathotype, large differences in the insecticidal spectra of B.t. toxins exist. For example, screening of a large collection of B.t. strains has lead to the identification of strains highly toxic to Soodoptera littoralis, an insect which is insensitive to most commonly known B.t. strains. [Pg.276]
