High strain rate effects, degradation

Both trichloroethylene (TCE) and toluene were found to have inhibitory effects on the degradation of MTBE in FBRs due to a form of competition. The authors further stated that the high loading rates of TCE and toluene may not have been the only factor leading to inhibition [85]. Inhibition of MTBE degradation by BTEX was observed in a trickhng filter reactor which had a MTBE degrading strain involved in direct metabolism. It was not identified what mechanism was responsible for the inhibition [79]. [Pg.233]
