The range of systems that have been studied by force field methods is extremely varied. Some force fields liave been developed to study just one atomic or molecular sp>ecies under a wider range of conditions. For example, the chlorine model of Rodger, Stone and TUdesley [Rodger et al 1988] can be used to study the solid, liquid and gaseous phases. This is an anisotropic site model, in which the interaction between a pair of sites on two molecules dep>ends not only upon the separation between the sites (as in an isotropic model such as the Lennard-Jones model) but also upon the orientation of the site-site vector with resp>ect to the bond vectors of the two molecules. The model includes an electrostatic component which contciins dipwle-dipole, dipole-quadrupole and quadrupole-quadrupole terms, and the van der Waals contribution is modelled using a Buckingham-like function. [Pg.249]

Calcific limestone is generally used by agronomists to denote a high calcium stone. This term can be misleading, however, because its use could suggest pure calcite, which calcitic limestone usually is not. [Pg.163]

Compact limestone is a general term depicting a dense, fine-grained, homogeneous, usually hard type of stone. [Pg.163]

Dolomitic limestone contains considerable MgCO. A tme dolomitic stone contains a ratio of 40—44% MgCO to 54—58% CaCO. However, the term is mote loosely used to denote any carbonate rock that contains mote than 20% MgCO. It varies in color, hardness, and purity. [Pg.163]

Fossiliferous limestone is a general term for any carbonate stone in which the fossil stmcture is visually evident. [Pg.163]

Trickling Filters. The so-called trickling filter is not a filter but a bed of stones or other coarse material (packing) over which the sewage flows. In terms of the total number of installations, it is the most widely used biological treatment process. However, the greatest total volume of waste is treated by the activity-sludge process (12). [Pg.283]

Packed-Bed Fixed-Film Systems These systems were originaUy termed anaerobic trickhng filters because the first systems were submerged columns filled with stones run under anaerobic conditions (Fig. 25-57).
