Drum filters are typically being replaced by the hanging leaf or cartridge elanent filter, such as the Star filter shown in Figure 4.42. In operation, contaminated coolant enters a dirty coolant tank, where heavy solids fall to the bottom and are withdrawn in a nearly dry state. The contanunated coolant is drawn through the filter elanents (usually six or eight sets of two panels) where suspended solids are trapped on the element surfaces. [Pg.282]

In an HT system, either the star is not grounded or it is a delta-connected system and hence the third harmonic is mostly absent, while the content of the. second harmonic nuiy be too small to be of any significance. For this purpose, where harmonic analysis is not possible, or for a new installation where the content of harmonies is not known, it is common practice to use a series reactor of 6% of the reactive value of the capacitors installed. This will suppress most of the harmonics by making the circuit inductive, up to almost the fourth harmonic, as derived subsequently. Where, however, second harmonics are significant, the circuit may be tuned for just below the second harmonic. To arrive at a more accurate choice of filters, it is better to conduct a harmonic analysis of the system through a harmonic analyser and ascertain the actual harmonic quantities and their magnitudes present in the system, and provide a correct series or parallel filter-circuits for each harmonic. [Pg.745]

Wiener inverse-filter however yields, possibly, unphysical solution with negative values and ripples around sharp features (e.g. bright stars) as can be seen in Fig. 3b. The detection of small extrasolar planets (of around the size of the Earth) will be done by registering the infrared light which they emit. Interference filters will blot out the light emitted by the star in question. Because of the huge distance from the Earth, effects due to its atmosphere and its IR radiation will not interfere. Darwin is intended not only to discover planets but to analyse their atmospheres for possible signs of life. [Pg.296]

The instrumental analysis for the identification of UV filters degradation products formed during the fungal treatment process was performed by means of HPLC coupled to tandem mass spectrometry using a hybrid quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometer (HPLC-QqTOF-MS/MS). Chromatographic separation was achieved on a Hibar Purospher STAR HR R-18 ec. (50 mm x 2.0 mm, 5 pm, from Merck). In the optimized method, the mobile phase consisted of a mixture of HPLC grade water and acetonitrile, both with 0.15% formic acid. The paper elements can be folded into various forms which appear as pleated, star-shaped or V-shaped patterns. These elements are wrapped or coiled around a central porous metal core. The reaction was stopped by adding 25 pi EDTA and 25 pi TCA (trichloroacetic acid). The reaction mixture was then spotted on ionic paper (DEAE paper). The paper was washed three times with TCA and then with ethyl alcohol. The filter paper was air dried and put into a scintillation vial with a scintillation cocktail.
