Stainless concrete

Most manufacturing equipment should be made of stainless steel. The liming tanks, however, can be either concrete or wood (qv). Properly lined iron tanks are often used for the washing and acidification, ie, souring, operations. Most gelatin plants achieve efficient processes by operating around the clock. The product is tested in batches and again as blends to confirm conformance to customer specifications. [Pg.207]

Silt, sand, concrete chips, shells, and so on, foul many cooling water systems. These siliceous materials produce indirect attack by establishing oxygen concentration cells. Attack is usually general on steel, cast iron, and most copper alloys. Localized attack is almost always confined to strongly passivating metals such as stainless steels and aluminum alloys. [Pg.73]

It may also be replaced with new carbon and disposal of the exhausted carbon Most adsorbers are pressure vessels constructed in carbon steel, stainless steel or plastic. Large systems for drinking water are often eonstructed in concrete. In some cases, a moving or pulsed bed adsorber is employed to optimixe the use of the granular activated carbon. [Pg.407]

The solution of waste products is concentrated and stored in double-walled, stainless steel tanks shielded by a metre or more of concrete. [Pg.1261]

Many passive metals suffer pitting attack when aggressive ions (usually chloride) enter the system. It is possible to forestall pitting, or to stop it once started, using cathodic protection. It is not necessary to polarise to the protection potential of the metal a negative shift of 100 mV from the natural corrosion potential in the environment will often be sufficient. This technique has been applied to various stainless steels and to aluminium . The philosophy is not unlike that applied to rebar in concrete. [Pg.122]

DAF clarifiers are mainly prefabricated in stainless steel for erection cost reduction, corrosion control, better construction flexibility, and possible future upgrades, contrary to in situ constructed heavy concrete sedimentation tanks. [Pg.249]

As adhesives they are very widely used both as cold setting and thermo curing. They can bond together a large variety of surfaces including metals. Araldite resins of this type are used widely in aircraft construction. They are also used for bonding concrete in dams and joining teflon film to stainless steel. They are used to encapsulate delineate electrical parts to protect them from shock and moisture. Such parts are used in components of rockets and satellites. [Pg.174]

The drowning tank is situated beneath the nitrator. It is constructed of concrete or of wood lined with lead or stainless steel. [Pg.70]

Much effort has been put into finding the proper material for seawater applications. Some of the materials for seawater applications are concrete with or without protective lining, carbon steel with protective lining, stainless steel, titanium, inconel and aluminium alloys. [Pg.189]

Large and medium size piping and valves require rubber or rubber lined construction whereas smaller ones are constructed with mild steel, concrete or stainless steel of suitable grade. [Pg.198]

A 45-millicurie 60Co source, stainless steel encapsulated, is bolted onto an adjustable plastic jig (not shown) for. insertion into the source hole in the lead block. This allows the source to be precisely positioned in the slit for max radiation transmission. With the source in position an additional shield consisting of a combination of lead bricks and concrete blocks is placed around and under the assembly on the table to maintain a permissible level of radiation for the operator... [Pg.119]

In the Interior Valley, the majority of the cooperage, as noted earlier, is stainless steel, coated metal, or concrete. The majority of tanks, except wood cooperage, consist of large sizes. [Pg.139]

The results obtained from tests on carbon steel and stainless steels on exposure to 0.5 and 2% chloride for period of two years at 80% relative humidity are noted in Table 7.13. It is obvious from the data that carbon steel failed in 2% chloride along with severe cracking of the concrete sample. The stainless steels did not corrode and the concrete also remained intact without cracking. [Pg.534]
