Stability in light

Applications. Polymers with small alkyl substituents are ideal candidates for elastomer formulation because of quite low temperature flexibility, hydrolytic and chemical stability, and high temperature stability. In light of the biocompatibilily of polysiloxanes and P-O- and P-N-suhslituted ptilyphosphazenes. polytalkyl/arylphosphazenes) are also likely lo he hiocompatible polymers. A third potential application is in the area of solid-state batteries. [Pg.843]

Surface Characterization of the Stabilized Catalyst by Probe Molecule Reaction. HZSM-5 obtained from PQ Zeolite was chosen to study the mechanism of stabilization in light naphtha aromatization. The reactions of both molecules were carried out over stabilized and unstabilized HZSM-5. We assumed first order kinetics with respect to each reactant concentration and first order decay of each reaction, and calculated initial rate constants. Figure 6 shows the initial rate constants of cumene cracking and triisopropyl-benzene cracking over the stabilized and the unstabilized catalysts. [Pg.225]

Although the simple one-electron model as described here (electronic correlations, screening, or counterion effects have not been considered) is inaccurate in the detailed description of the electronic states of conducting polymers, it is useful to consider the problem of environmental stability in light of the types of electronic states formed on doping. In this chapter, the term stability is narrowly defined as the maintenance of conductivity. Be-... [Pg.275]

The cost of energy now appears to have stabilized such that it will more nearly approximate that of general inflation in the immediate future. Therefore, the cost of bituminous coatings as related to other coating types is also expected to stabilize. In light of these factors, the bituminous coatings and modified bituminous coatings are expected to maintain their market share for the Immediate future. [Pg.1242]

These synthetic dyes impart a large range of colors varying from red, yellow, and black with exceptional stability in light and temperature. Natural dyes are not acceptable as food additives due to the... [Pg.425]

Dioxazine pigments are available in violet and are unusually strong although expensive. They exhibit excellent stability in light and satisfactory heat stability. [Pg.384]

The products intended for use exposed to sunlight may be formulated with photochemical stabilizers (UV stabilizers) whenever it is possible, 1-2% of furnace grade carbon black (with particle diameter of 20-25 nm) represent the least expensive and most efficient stabilizer. In light colored formulations, benzophenone and benztriazole derivatives have been the most popular photostabilizers over the past period at present, the most powerful class of such stabilizers is represented by HALS, which has a typical structure (III) ... [Pg.872]

In light of oxidative processes, the high degree of resonance stabilization that arises from the maximally occupied HOMO (10 electrons), makes it an extremely difficult task to remove an electron from the HOMO level [31], Thus, [60]fullerene can be considered mostly an electronegative entity which is much more easily reduced than oxidized. [Pg.2413]

On the other hand, in spite of some interesting tinctorial properties, it does not seem that thiazolo dyes received wide application in the texlile industry because they suffer from lack of stability to light and chemical agents. [Pg.25]

The major use of this compound is in the production of mordant and acid dyes. 2-Amino-4-nitropheno1 also has found limited use as an antioxidant and light stabilizer in butyl mbbers and as a catalyst in the manufacture of hexadiene. The compound has been shown to be a skin irritant and continuous exposure should be avoided. Toxicological studies indicate that it is nonaccumulative (162). [Pg.313]

Stability. In order to have maximum effectiveness over long periods of time, an antioxidant should be stable upon exposure to heat, light, oxygen, water, etc. Many antioxidants, especially in the presence of an impurity when exposed to light and oxygen, are subject to oxidation reactions with the development of colored species. Alkylated diphenyl amines are least susceptible and the -phenylenediamine derivatives the most susceptible to direct oxidation. [Pg.246]

As a pharmaceutical, methyl salicylate is used in liniments and ointments for the relief of pain and for rheumatic conditions. As a flavor and fragrance agent, it is used in confectioneries, dentifrices, cosmetics, and perfumes. Other commercial applications for methyl salicylate are as a dye carrier, as a uv-light stabilizer in acrylic resins, and as a chemical intermediate. The May 1996 price was 5.50/kg (18). [Pg.289]

Polymers. In combination with various metal salts, sorbitol is used as a stabilizer against heat and light in poly(vinyl chloride) (qv) resins and, with a phenohc antioxidant, as a stabilizer in uncured styrene—butadiene mbber (qv) compositions and in polyolefins (see Heat stabilizers Olefin POLYMERS Rubbercompounding). Heat-sealable films are prepared from a dispersion of sorbitol and starch in water (255). Incorporation of sorbitol in coUagen films gready restricts their permeabiUty to carbon dioxide (256). [Pg.55]

Further improvement in light stability may be achieved by addition of small quantities of ultraviolet absorbers. Typical examples include phenyl salicylate, 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone, resorcinol monobenzoate, methyl salicylate and stilbene. [Pg.409]

A high-impact polystyrene (polystyrene SBR blend) may have seven times the impact strength of ordinary polystyrene, but about half the tensile strength, a lower hardness and a softening point some 15°C lower. Because of the rubber content there may be a reduction in light and heat stability and stabilisers are normally incorporated. [Pg.439]

In addition, some of the nitrogen compounds end up in light cycle oil (LCO) as pyrolles and pyridines [5]. These compounds are easily oxidized and will affect color stability. The amount of nitrogen in the LCO depends on the conversion. An increase in conversion decreases the percentage of nitrogen in the LCO and increases the percentage on the catalyst. [Pg.56]

Pigments for finishes are selected on the basis of their colour, but special attention must be paid to inertness in the chosen binder and stability and light fastness under the conditions of application and exposure. Flake pigments such as aluminium and micaceous iron oxide give finishes of lower moisture-vapour permeability than conventional pigments, and consequently contribute to better protection. [Pg.586]

The main performance characteristics of light-duty liquids or dishwash blends are soil emulsification and foaming. Figueroa-Raulli [73] published a comparative study of AOS vs. alkyl sulfates (AS), alcohol ether sulfates (AES), and linear alkylbenzenesulfonates (LAS) in light-duty liquid blends. The blends were evaluated for flash foam, the stability of foam under accumulating soil loads, and for the number of plates washed. Blend performance is expressed as a percentage of a dishwash reference standard. [Pg.418]
