Species File

Given the uncertainties in reaction rates, one sometimes wishes to replace the current "best guess with new estimates, as an experiment, for instance, changing all the ion-high dipole moment reaction rate coefficients using an analytic formula. To facilitate this, we have a species file, which contains information about each species, such as ionisation potential, dipole moment and polarisability. [Pg.344]

Species File is a collection of programs that provides access to, and manipulation of, taxonomic information stored in multiple databases. Each database provides detailed information about taxa contained within the scope of the apex taxon and is coupled to a website that provides the means to interact with and modify information held within the database. Central to Species File functions is the means to store nomenclatural information in a way that is fully compliant with the codes of zoological nomenclature. The Species File development team has produced a template that contains the basic database table structure as well as the stored procedures, user-defined functions and views used by independent Species Files. The template is used as the starting point for new species file databases and is capable of a limited number of customisations. [Pg.291]

Species File has been developed by David Eades and colleagues in conjunction with the Illinois Natural History Survey. It was conceived and developed to manage information on the insect order Orthoptera (Orthoptera-SpeciesFile" ), but in recent years has been adopted by 10 other insect research communities. At the time of writing. Species File databases contain taxonomic information on almost 52 000 valid species (circa 85 000 names) of which roughly half come from Orthoptera Species File. [Pg.291]

Due to its modularity, the software comes in many parts (shown in Fig. 9). The Chemkin package is composed of four important pieces the Interpreter, the Thermodynamic Data Base, the Linking File, and the Gas-Phase Subroutine Library. The Interpreter is a program that first reads the user s symbolic description of the reaction mechanism. It then extracts thermodynamic information for the species involved from the Thermodynamic Data Base. The user may add to or modify the information in the data base by input to the Interpreter. In addition to printed output, the Interpreter writes a Linking File, which contains all the pertinent information on the elements, species, and reactions in the mechanism. [Pg.348]
