Special Spring

A similar post-molding machining operation is required to produce variable thickness/constant width springs. In both instances, end-to- [Pg.727]

Structures and sub-structures composed of a number of different components and/or materials, including traditional materials, obey the same principles of design analysis. Stresses, strains, and displacements within individual components must be related through the characteristics (anisotropy, viscoelasticity, etc.) relevant to the particular material, and loads and displacements must be compatible at component interfaces. Thus, each individual component or sub-component must be treated. [Pg.730]

Load and support conditions for individual components depend on the complete structure (or system) analysis, and are unknown to be determined in that analysis. For example, if a plastic panel is mounted into a much more rigid structure, then its support conditions can be specified with acceptable accuracy. liowever, if the surrounding structure has comparable flexibility to the panel, then the interface conditions will depend on the flexural analysis of the complete structure. In a more localized context, structural stiffness may be achieved by ribbing and relevant analyses may be carried out using available design formulae (usually for elastic behavior) or finite element analysis, but necessary anisotropy or viscoelasticity complicate the analysis, often beyond the ability of the design analyst. [Pg.730]

The primary function of the face sheets is to provide the required bending and in-plane shear stiffness, and to carry the axial, bending, and in-plane shear loading (Chapter 8 BEAMS). In high-performance structures, facings most commonly chosen are RPs (usually prepreg), URPs, aluminum, titanium, or stainless steel. [Pg.731]

Vacuum Relief and Combined Pressure-Vacuum Relief for Low Pressure Conditions normally used for low pressures such as 1 ounce water to 1.5 psig above atmospheric by special spring or dead weight loading and for vacuum protection such as 0.5 psi below atmospheric. Usually these conditions are encountered in large process, crude oil, ammonia, etc., storage tanks. See later section covering this topic. [Pg.435]

Usually the size of the body and bonnet are determined by the design of the special spring (pressure and material). [Pg.120]

Zahoransky et al. described an improved Fl-FFF channel which assures a uniform cross-flow in the whole channel [476]. This is achieved by a division of the hollow compartment under the membrane supporting frit into three separate chambers with an independent pressure control. By means of special spring-loaded clamping devices, the spacer and membrane change is reported to be simple, thus making the whole experimental handling with this new channel convenient. [Pg.173]

Split ranging is a term applied to techniques for controlling two or more valves from one controller. If overrides are involved, it may mean controlling two or more valves from two or more controllers. In past years split ranging was accomplished by installing special springs in valve positioners. Tlus technique is not very flexible, however, and plant maintenance people do not like to have to keep track of nonstandard valves. [Pg.289]

MD, one needs to use multiple time step methods to ensure proper handling of the sprmg vibrations, and there is a possible physical bottleneck in the transfer of energy between the spring system and the other degrees of freedom which must be handled properly [199]. In MC, one needs to use special methods to sample configuration space efficiently [200, 201]. [Pg.2274]

An instability of the impulse MTS method for At slightly less than half the period of a normal mode is confirmed by an analytical study of a linear model problem [7]. For another analysis, see [2]. A special case of this model problem, which gives a more transparent description of the phenomenon, is as follows Consider a two-degree-of-freedom system with Hamiltonian p + 5P2 + + 4( 2 This models a system of two springs con-... [Pg.324]

Seat leakage is specified for conventional direct spring operated metal-to-metal seated valves by API RP 527. The important factor in understanding the allowable seat leak is that it is stated at 90% of set point. Therefore, unless special seat lapping is specified or soft seat designs used, a valve operating with a 10% differential between operating and set pressures may be expected to leak. [Pg.319]

Users are warned that an ordinary spring loaded safety relief valve will not open at its set pressure if back pressure builds up in the space between the valve and rupture disk. A specially designed valve is required, such as a diaphragm valve or a valve equipped with a bellows above the disk. [Pg.425]

Wire rope is most often furnished preformed, but can be furnished non-preformed, upon special request by the purchaser. A preformed rope has the strands shaped to the helical form they assume in the finished rope before the strands have been fabricated into tbe rope. The strands of such preformed rope shall not spring from their normal position when the seizing bands are removed. Cable tool is one of the few applications for which nonpreformed is still used. [Pg.575]

Special products include transparent vitreosil springs, which are ideal for continuous measurement in corrosive atmospheres, and quick-immersion thermocouple protection sheaths for rapid temperature measurement. [Pg.893]

Missing from this list is Peter McGahey, my developmental editor, who deserves special thanks. He soothed frayed nerves and lifted sagging spirits with his positive, optimistic personality. His good humor provided an extra dose of energy. It also helped to get off topic once in a while to chat about tulip bulbs in the spring and perennials in the summer Thanks, Peter. You were an oasis of calm on many days. [Pg.727]
