Spacing between fibrils

The extracellular space between peripheral nerve fibers is occupied by bundles of collagen fibrils, blood vessels and endoneurial cells 18... [Pg.3]

On the other hand, as noted above, the mineralization of the turkey gastrocnemius has been studied extensively. Mineral deposition appears to involve two distinct components of the tendon type I collagen and small vesicles that are found in the extracellular spaces between the collagen fibrils organized in long, parallel, and highly aligned arrays. [Pg.118]

Space between microcrystals is fdled by uncrystallizable part of polymer substance, which grouts microcrystals combining them into fibrills. Fibrills are fibered structures beginning in the centre of the crystal and being oriented radially. These are fibrils which organize lamellae and provide their radial orientation. [Pg.125]

Within the various layers of wood cell walls, the hemicelluloses, lignin, extraneous and mineral constituents are concentrated in the spaces between microfibrils or elementary fibrils. The hemicelluloses and lignin form a matrix surrounding the cellulose. Within a given microfibril, lignin and the hemicelluloses may penetrate the spaces between cellulose molecules in the amorphous regions. [Pg.170]

Hydrated cellulose (viscous) fibers, unwoven materials (e.g. felt), with different fiber interweaving and chemical reagents of high purity were used. Hydrated cellulose was chosen as a polymer precursor. Its structure is a complex system composed of micro-fibrils and micro- and macropores and also of a branched network of microscopic capillaries. Cellulose has a large inner surface that plays a determining role in absorption of aqueous or organic liquids with polymer molecules. Under the impregnation of hydrated cellulose with aqueous solutions of salts, the liquid fills the space between fibers, pores on the fiber surface and interacts with cellulose macromolecules. [Pg.463]

Figure 4 are about 750 ms apart, corresponding to a spacing of 1.2 mm. This agrees well with the distance between fibrils in Figure 6b. At lower normal forces, the slip events are spaced more closely. The average distance between slip events inferred from the current signals at a normal load of 2 N is 0.8 mm, in good agreement with the fibril spacing observed by SEM (about 0.7 mm).
