Many zeolites occur naturally, but the majority of those used commercially have been synthesized and are designated by a letter or group of letters (Type A, Type Y, Type ZSM, etc.). The lettering system has evolved empirically and has no relation to the structure. For example, ZSM stands for Zeolite Sacony Mobil. [Pg.191]

Another successful C02 absorbent utilizing chemical interaction has been potassium carbonate used in the "hot carbonate process." The C02 absorption and absorbent regeneration occur at about the same temperature of 225°F in this process. C02 absorption occurs at high pressure and the sorbent regeneration occurs due to lowering of pressure with steam stripping. The absorption/regeneration reactions are represented as... [Pg.295]

Prior studies utilizing adsorbents in the presence of supercritical fluid media have been reviewed by King (3), who has commented on the lack of fundamental knowledge on adsorbate(sorbate)/adsorbent(sorbent)/supercritical fluid systems. Indeed, with the exception of the sorbent regeneration studies performed at Critical Fluid Systems in the last... [Pg.63]

Gas cleaning by sorption by a liquid or solid sorbent is one of the most widely applied operations in the chemical and process industries (Table 23.1). Some processes have the potential for sorbent regeneration, but, in a few cases, the process is applied in a nonregenerative manner. The interaction between sorbate and sorbent may either be physical in nature or consist of physical sorption followed by chemical reaction. Other gas stream treatments use the principle of chemical conversion of the contaminants with the production of harmless (non-contaminant) products or to substances, which can be removed much more readily than the impurities from which they are derived (Mokhatab et al., 2006 Speight, 2007, 2008). [Pg.702]

In particular, the high cyclic capacity of the sorbent is one of the key characteristics. The higher the capacity, the more CO2 can be adsorbed per m reactor volume and the less steam for sorbent regeneration is needed reducing the primary energy consumption per ton of CO2 captured. Lifetime and specific sorbent cost are the other two key parameters predominantly affecting the operational cost of the CO2 capture process. [Pg.180]

Reaction 12 shows that the hydrogen production is almost thermally neutral. The sorbent regeneration step does require energy, but it has been reported that an energy saving of 20-25% compared to conventional steam methane reforming can be reached with CaO-SER (44). [Pg.2070]
