Some Unanswered Questions

The first part of this article argued the case that biological electrochemical reactions represent the power source for all driven biological phenomena. We now examine the mechanisms that control the rate of power generation and utilization in living systems. Intimately related to this is the question of how the rate of heat production by living cells is regulated. [Pg.356]

Another area of considerable conceptual difficulty relates to the observation that the adult animal exists in a more-or-less steady-state, well removed from equilibrium. When observed day-to-day there is generally little variation in body composition while the animal is on a consistent diet, the mass of protein, carbohydrate, and fat remaining approximately constant. Unresolved Problems Against the background of above listed achievements, there are still some unanswered questions that appear in the course of the research.
