Growth hormone (somatrem, somatropin) and corticotrophin use may be combined with that of anabolic steroids. Chorionic gonadotrophin may be taken to stimulate testosterone production (and prevent testicular atrophy). Similarly, tamoxifen (antioestrogen) may be used to attenuate some of the effects of anabolic steroids. 

As used in this subsection the term "human growth hormone" means somatrem, somatropin, or an analogue of either of them.

Role in therapy Micromedex notes that like somatropin (rDNA origin), somatrem is effective in the treatment of children with documented defidenq of growth hormone its effectiveness in constitutional short stature remains to be determined. Somatrem can be considered to be equal to somatropin in efficaq , but because of the increased incidence of immunogenic effects resulting in neutralizing antigrowth hormone antibodies seen with somatrem, it will likely take a secondary role to recombinant somatropin products in therapy.

Leukemia has been reported in a small number of pediatric patients who have been treated with growth hormone, including growth hormone of pituitary origin as well as recombinant DNA origin (somatrem and somatropin). The relationship, if any, between leukemia and growth hormone therapy is unknown...

If the pituitary gland produces too little GH, the patient will not reach a normal height. This is referred to as GH deficiency. Patients with this deficiency undergo GH replacement using Somatrem (protropin) and somatropin (Humatrope) to replenish the missing GH and enable normal growth to occur. 

The pituitary gland secretes the growth hormone. Octreotide (Sandostatin) is used to suppress growth hormone release. Somatrem (protropin) and somatropin (Humatrope) are used to replenish missing growth hormone.
