As a side aspect, the HPLC-Raman correlation results allow us to calibrate the RRS instruments in terms of carotenoid concentration. According to the regression analysis, the cumulative skin carotenoid content c, measured in pg per g of skin tissue, is linked to the height of the C=C RRS skin carotenoid intensity, I, via c [pg/g]=4.3 x 10 5=/ [photon counts]. Integrating the RRS spectra with the instrument s data acquiring software therefore allows us to display skin carotenoid content directly in concentration units, i.e., in pg carotenoid content per g of tissue. [Pg.104]

Scatter search has been implemented in software called OPTQUEST (see www.opttek.com). OPTQUEST is available as a callable library written in C, which can be invoked from any C program, or as a dynamic linked library (DLL), which can be called from a variety of languages including C, Visual Basic, and Java. The callable library consists of a set of functions that (1) input the problem size and data, (2) set options and tolerances, (3) perform steps 1 through 3 to create an initial reference set, (4) retrieve a trial solution from OPTQUEST to be input to the improvement method, and (5) input the solution resulting from the improvement method back into OPTQUEST, which uses it as the input to step 7 of the scatter search protocol. The improvement method is provided by the user. We use the term improvement loosely here because the user can simply provide an evaluation of the objective and constraint functions. [Pg.409]

Time-resolved emission spectra were reconstructed from a set of multifrequency phase and modulation traces acquired across the emission spectrum (37). The multifrequency phase and modulation data were modeled with the help of a commercially available global analysis software package (Globals Unlimited). The model which offered the best fits to the data with the least number of fitting parameters was a series of bi-exponential decays in which the individual fluorescence lifetimes were linked across the emission spectrum and the pre-exponential terms were allowed to vary. [Pg.100]

You have heard the term networking in the business context, where people come together and exchange names for future contact and to give them access to more resources. The same is true with a computer network. A computer network allows computers to link to each other s resources. For example, in a network every computer does not need a printer connected locally to print. Instead, one computer has a printer connected to it and allows the other computers to access this resource. Because they allow users to share resources, networks offer an increase in performance as well as a decrease in the outlay for new hardware and software. [Pg.304]

Avionics and Navigation. Condensed from the term aviation electronics, the term avionics has come to include the generation of intelligent software systems and sensors to control unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which may operate autonomously. Avionics also deals with various subsystems such as radar and communications, as well as navigation equipment, and is closely linked to the disciplines of flight dynamics, controls, and navigation. [Pg.14]

Unlike simple data logging systems, supervisory control systems are designed to restrict the flexibility of the operator by "supervision" of his actions. In these systems the operator can interact with the plant through the keyboard/workstation to start or stop pumps, open valves and change PID controller set points. The three-term controllers may be conventional electronic controllers, linked to the supervising system, or software algorithms programmed into a PLC. [Pg.221]

The software requirements provide a link between the system level and the computer capabilities. As such, they should be understandable both in terms of processes in the external environment and as operations provided by the computer code. [Pg.41]

Regarding the potential commercial use of millistructured reactors, one of the main aspects to be considered is its possible integration in industrial processes. In this context, not only the design of the reactor but also the way in which it interacts with the different equipment linked to it in terms of mass and heat balances should be taken into account. For the latter purpose, process simulation software such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, PROMAX, UNISIM, and/or... [Pg.785]

Problem frames are a means to describe software development problems. They were invented by Jackson [12], who describes them as follows A problem frame is a kind of pattern. It defines an intuitively identifiable problem class in terms of its context and the characteristics of its domains, interfaces and requirement. Problem frames are described hy frame diagrams, which consist of rectangles, a dashed oval, and links between these (see Fig. 1). All elements of a problem frame diagram act as placeholders, which must be instantiated to represent concrete problems. Doing so, one obtains a problem description that belongs to a specific problem class. [Pg.312]
