Sodium supply

Recent NEMCA investigations have shown that J3"-A1203, a Na+ conductor, can be used as an active catalyst support to dramatically enhance the rate and selectivity of several enviromentally important reactions such as NO reduction by CO, H2 and C3H6, all catalyzed by Pt. Sodium supply to the catalyst has been found to enhance not only the catalytic activity, but also product selectivity to nitrogen. [Pg.446]

An example of the promotional action of sodium supply to the catalyst was given in Fig. 4.40 which shows steady-state (potentiostatic) rate data for... [Pg.447]

Isotonicity of the extracellular space is regulated by (i.) thirst mechanism, (2.) ADH, and (S.) dilution and concentration potential of the kidneys. Maintenance of extracellular isovoiaemia is effected by a change in renal sodium excretion. For this reason, disturbances in the sodium supply primarily result in changes in the extracellular fluid volume. Isohydria is also continually regulated within the normal range. [Pg.289]

Sodium deficiency during long-term endurance exercise may cause dehydration. A sodium content of 300-800 mg in saliva seems to provide an adequate sodium supply during endurance exercise, without impairing the flavor of beverages (Zapf etal. 1999). The importance of taste to individuals on a low-sodium diet has been demonstrated. It is interesting to observe that a low-sodium diet maintained over a long period leads to a shift in preference toward less salty foods (Bertino et al. 1982). [Pg.512]

The ATLAS monotubular rig, with a straight tube, was designed to obtained detailed data on heat transfer, pressure loss, dry-out correlations and flow instabilities in view of validation of the thermalhydraulics case of the EFR steam-generator units. The ATLAS rig was connected to the steam-water and sodium supply system of the SET facility at CEA-CADARACHE. The programme was successfully performed in 1995 with a series of 34 tests. Sensitivity studies on vapour pressure, flowrate and inlet temperature of sodium and water around nominal conditions (vapour pressure (185 bar)), in a large power range (20, 50, 80 and 100 % Nominal Power) were carried out. Around the 20 and 100 % Nominal Power Value, sensitivity studies were also performed. In addition, a series of experiments was performed at "low pressure" (60, 80 and 120 bars). [Pg.64]

Test section manufacture was completed and installation with connection to the steam-water and sodium supply systems of the SET (Station Essais Tedinologiques Technological Test Section) facility was carried out in 1994. Cleaning of the sodium took longer than expected. [Pg.97]

Factors that influence the reabsorption and secretion of potassium are distal sodium supply, plasma concentration, and tubule flow rate. Renal blood flow by activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system plays also a major role. [Pg.332]

There is a sodium supply system which will purify the commercial grade sodium to reactor grade, the specification of which is as follows ... [Pg.528]

The sodium supply system consists of an electro-magnetic pump with a flow rate of 8 m /h, a cold trap and a storage tank. [Pg.528]

When heated, sodium hydrogencarbonate readily decomposes evolving carbon dioxide, a reaction which leads to its use as baking powder when the carhon dioxide evolved aerates the dough. In the soda-ammonia process the carbon dioxide evolved is used to supplement the main carbon dioxide supply obtained by heating calcium carbonate ... [Pg.133]

Other sources of hazard arise from the handling of such chemicals as concentrated acids, alkalis, metallic sodium and bromine, and in working with such extremely poisonous substances as sodium and potassium cyanides. The special precautions to be observed will be indicated, where necessary, in the experiments in which the substances are employed, and will also be supplied by the demonstrator. The exercise of obvious precautions and cautious handling will in most cases reduce the danger to almost negligible proportions. Thus, if concentrated sulphuric acid should be accidentally spilled, it should be immediately washed with a liberal quantity of water or of a solution of a mild alkali. [Pg.206]

The silver nitrite may be prepared as described in Section 11,50, 17. The product supplied by Johnson, Matthey and Co. Ltd., of Hatton Garden, London, E.C. 1, is satisfactory it. should be washed with absolute methyl or ethyl alcohol, followed by sodium-dried ether, and dried in an electrically-heated oven at 100 for 30 minutes (longer heating results in darkening on the surface) the substance should be kept in a vacuum desiccator until required. [Pg.307]

Sodium cyanide is very poisonous and must be handled with great care. The hands should be washed immediately after using it. All the residual solution.s containing alkali cyanides must be emptied into the main drain of the laboratory and washed down with a liberal supply of water they should never be treated with acid. [Pg.409]

At Lake Texcoco, Mexico, bicarbonate is available in the alkaline waters from soda ash [497-19-8] (sodium carbonate) deposits (see Alkali and CHLORINE products). This supply of carbon is adequate for growing Spirulina maxima which tolerates alkaline pH values in the range 9—11 (37,38). Combustion gases have been used to grow this organism, but this carbon source is not available in many regions (49). [Pg.464]

Nickel carbonyl should be used in totally enclosed systems or under good local exhaust. Plants and laboratories where nickel carbonyl is used should make use of air-monitoring devices, alarms should be present in case of accidental leakage, and appropriate personal respiratory protective devices should be readily available for emergency uses. Monitoring of urinary nickel levels is useful to help determine the severity of exposure and identify appropriate treatment measures. Some large-scale users of nickel carbonyl maintain a supply of sodium diethyldithiocarbamate, or Antabuse, a therapeutic agent, on hand for use in case of overexposure. [Pg.14]

Rubidium metal is commeicially available in essentially two grades, 99 + % and 99.9 + %. The main impurities ate other alkali metals. Rubidium compounds are available in a variety of grades from 99% to 99.99 + %. Manufacturers and suppliers of mbidium metal and mbidium compounds usually supply a complete certificate of analysis upon request. Analyses of metal impurities in mbidium compounds are determined by atomic absorption or inductive coupled plasma spectroscopy (icp). Other metallic impurities, such as sodium and potassium, are determined by atomic absorption or emission spectrograph. For analysis, mbidium metal is converted to a compound such as mbidium chloride. [Pg.280]
