Sodium diphosphate is prepared by the following procedure. Disodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, Na2HP04 2H20, (7.12 g, 40 mmole) is placed in a 60-mL platinum crucible and heated in air at 400° for 12 hours (Product Merck for analysis K 6580). According to Porthault,2 this method leads to a tetrasodium diphosphate, Na4P207, the purity of which is better than 99.5%. No impurities can be found by chromatographic or potentiometric analysis. [Pg.122]

We have already discussed the properties of human erythrocytic acid phosphatase (Section 3.3), and we pointed out that, like acid phosphate in other tissues, it may exist in several isoenzymatic forms. In 1963, Hopkinson et al. (H13) subjected hemolysates of human red cells from an English population to horizontal starch-gel electrophoresis for 17 hours at 5°C. The gels were then sliced horizontally, covered with 0.05 M phenolphthalein sodium diphosphate at pH 6.0, and allowed to incubate for 3 hours at 37°C. Five different electrophoretic patterns of acid phosphatase activity could be distinguished in different individuals. Shortly thereafter Lai and his associates (L2) confirmed these findings and discovered an additional sixth pattern which had been predicted by Hopkinson et al. (H13). The distribution of these patterns in various types of population was assiduously pursued within the next several years, and several new ones were discovered in Negro populations (G3, K2). [Pg.92]

Variations of this polymerization reaction are exhibited by potassium and sodium salts because of topochemical reasons and because of the greater stability of crystalline sodium diphosphate and sodium trimetaphosphate. Of interest to this discussion is the sequence of reactions on... [Pg.582]

Menadiol Sodium Diphosphate, USP. Menadiol sodium diphosphate, letrastxlium 2-methyl-1.4-nuphthalene-diol bis(dihydrogen phosphate), tetrasodium 2-mcthylnuph-thohydroquinone diphosphate, vitamin K4. is a white hygroscopic powder, very soluble in water, giving solutions with a pH of 7 to 9. It is available in ampuls for use subcutaneously, intramuscularly, or intravenously and in tablets for oral administration. Unlike the other vitamin K analogues, menadiol oral absorption does not depend on the presence of bile. Once absorbed, it is converted to inenadione. [Pg.885]
