Sodium bisulfite chlorite

Yonkos, L. T. Fisher, D. J. Burton, D. T. Whitekettle, W. K. Petrille, J. C. Effectiveness of the Sulfur(IV) Compound, Sodium Bisulfite, in Reducing Chlorine, Chlorine Dioxide, and Chlorite Toxicity to Daphnia Magna in Well Water and Pond Water, Environ. Toxicol. Chem. 2001, 20, 530-536. [Pg.197]

A clean vessel was charged with water (20 gal), sodium hydrogen phosphate (25 kg, 183.5 mol), 5-(2-formyl-pyridin-2-yloxy)-benz[l,2,5]oxadiazole (15 kg, 62 mol), and Zert-butyl alcohol (99 gal). The mixture was stirred for 1 h, and then a solution of sodium chlorite (34 kg, 379 mol) in water (40 gal) was added at a rate to keep the internal temperature < 35 °C. The reaction was quenched with a solution of sodium bisulfite (90 kg) in water (99 gal) at a rate to keep the temperature < 25 °C. The tert-butyl alcohol was stripped at slightly below atmospheric temperature (to control the bisulfite fumes released) until the head temperature was 80 °C. After cooling to 20 °C, the solids were stirred for 5.5 h, filtered, and washed with water (10 gal). The wet cake was reslurried in water (30 gal) for 1 h at 80 °C. After cooling to 20-25 °C, the solids were slurried for 2 h, filtered, and washed with water (5 gal). The solids were dried in a vacuum oven at 45-55 °C until the KF was < 0.5%, yielding 14.3 kg (89%) of the desired product. [Pg.98]

Apart from swelling, delignification also affects the equilibrium regain of jute fiber, and Kabir et al. have shown that when delignified by 10%, using a chlorite treatment followed by sodium bisulfite solution extraction, the absorption and desorption regains at 65% RH are each increased by about 1% [52]. [Pg.430]

On-site generation is necessary because the compressed liquid is explosive at room temperature. It is an unstable gas and, therefore, is not stored or sent in bulk. It is most commonly produced by reacting chlorine with sodium chlorite. There are several generation system choices using chlorine solution, chlorine gas and chlorite solution, or solid chlorite (Figure 3-11). Chlorite solution spills should be neutralized with sodium sulfite. Do not use sodium bisulfite. [Pg.36]

Cationic FBAs are used to brighten polyacrylonitrile fibres. The brightening of acrylic fibres is carried by the exhaust method at an acid pH, usually in the presence of sodium chlorite or bisulfite bleach. Pyrazolines produce very high whites but are unstable to bleach and therefore the quaternary benzimidazoles are the preferred class, e.g. (3.65) and (3.66). [Pg.193]
