Sodium alkyl sulphates compounds

Epton, S.R. 1948. New method for the rapid titration analysis of sodium alkyl sulphates and related compounds. Trans. Faraday Soc. 44 226-230. [Pg.312]

This combination is comparably milder combination than that of caustic soda and hence ideally suitable for more delicate cloths and colour woven goods compensating for the slower action of the milder alkali by the addition of a detergent. Anionic products like sodium alkyl sulphates and alkyl aromatic sulphonates and non-ionics like polyethoxylated compounds are used as detergent. Sometimes mixtures of anionic and non-ionic products are used. It is possible to obtain a synergistic effect between a detergent and alkali, so that the two agents when combined increase their total activities rather than inhibit each other. Fig. 4-2 shows the syn-... [Pg.90]

Low concentrations of sodium chloride, in fact, reduce detergent power but any increase above 2 g/1 produces a rapid improvement. This effect is apparent with the non-ionic surface-active compounds as well as with the sodium alkyl sulphates. [Pg.202]

These are esters of sulphuric acid - the most commonly used compound is sodium lauryl sulphate, which is a mixture of sodium alkyl sulphates. The main component is sodium dodecyl sulphate, Ci2H25-0-S0 Na+. It is used pharmaceutically as a preoperative skin cleanser having bacteriostatic action against Gram positive bacteria. It is also used in medicated shampoos and tooth paste (as foam producer). [Pg.437]

The thio-ethers are neutral volatile compounds of little importance. Reaction CLXI. Action of Sodium or Potassium Sulphide on Alkyl Halides or Alkyl Sulphates. (B., 27,1239.)... [Pg.330]

Most agrochemicals are water-insoluble compounds with various physical properties, which have first to be determined to decide on the type of formulation. Accurate physical data on the compound is essential, such as its solubility, its lipophilic character and its chemical stability. One of the earliest types of formulations is wettable powders (WP), which are suitable for formulating solid water-insoluble compounds that can be produced in a powder form. The chemical (which may be micronised) is mixed with a filler, such as china clay and a solid surfactant, such as sodium alkyl or alkyl aryl sulphate or sulphonate, is added. When the... [Pg.503]

Much of the early work on amphiphiles was undertaken on soaps and lipids based on fatty acids, and the corresponding non-systematic chemical names of these parent compounds and their derivatives are still commonly encountered. For convenience, Table 4.1 lists the systematic and trivial names of fatty acids, along with their structures. The names of derivatives are based on these for example sodium dodecyl sulphate is (still ) sometimes referred to as sodium lauryl sulphate. Other non-systematic names also exist to cause further confusion For example, hexadecyl (Cie chain) compounds are often termed cetyl derivatives. The use of the term fatty here and elsewhere is used to indicate an alkyl chain with 12 or more carbon atoms, i.e. a hydrocarbon that forms fats. [Pg.163]

Chemical Properties of Thiazolidines.—Alkylation of metal salts of thiazolidine-2-thione can yield either TV-alkyl derivatives, depending on the type of solvent, the alkylating agent, and the counter-ion e.g., the sodium salt with methyl iodide in dioxan gives mainly the 5-methyl compound, whilst with dimethyl sulphate in DMSO the N-methyl derivative is obtained. Oxidative imination of the thiazolidin-4-one (82), using Chloramine-T, gives (83) quantitatively, whilst... [Pg.118]

The metallic derivatives of organic compounds that are most likely to be encountered in the course of practice analyses are salts of carboxylic acids, sulphonic acids, phenols and enols, alkyl hydrogen sulphates metallic derivatives of amides, imides and sidpho-namides sodium bisulphite adducts of carbonyl compounds. [Pg.44]
