Table 3.53 shows input-output data for the slide grinding of aluminium castings. The effluent water goes to a water treatment system and is re-circulated into the slide grinding equipment. Abrasive rocks are used and come out unaltered, besides for some minimal wearing. [Pg.142]

Micropowders are added to a wide variety of material used in industry, where they provide nonstick and sliding properties. They are incorporated into the product by blending and grinding. To disperse weU, the powder must have good flow properties. Conditions that make the powder sticky should be avoided. [Pg.355]

Mill feeders attached to the feed trunnion of the conical mill and used to pass the feed into the mill without backspill are of several types. A feed chute is generally used for diy grinding, this consisting of an inclined chute which is sealed at the outer edge of the trunnion and down which the material slides to pass through the trunnion and into the mill. A screw feeder, consisting of a short section of screw conveyor which extends partway into the opening in the feed trunnion and conveys the materi into the mill, may also be used when diy... [Pg.1852]

Artifacts introduced through sample preparation are common materials these may be bits of facial tissue, wax, epithelial cells, hair, or dried stain, all inadvertently introduced by the microscopist. Detergent residues on so-called precleaned microscope slides and broken glass are common artifacts, as are knife marks and chatter marks from sectioning with a faulty blade, or scratch marks from grinding and polishing. [Pg.67]

The solid-state photoreaction of thioamide 1 was done under an atmosphere purged with dry argon. The solid sample was irradiated for 4 h as a powder prepared by grinding, and placed inside a Pyrex slide. When powdered thioamide 1 was irradiated in the solid state at 0 °C, at up to 19% conversion, optically active /i-thiolactam 2 of 31% ee was isolated. The optical purity was determined by HPLC using a chiral cell OD column (Daicel Chemical Ind.). [Pg.199]

A routine operation usually proceeds as follows. First the head of the femur is sawn off. The socket in the pelvis (the acetabulum) is then made deeper with a cutting machine and subsequently the metal socket is stamped into the hip. This metal is then lined with plastic to facilitate sliding movements. The femur is scooped out with a rasp and filled with cement. This cement is a mixture of plastics which automatically polymerizes in the femur. Since 1997 it has been becoming customary to grind up old hip heads and use the bone shreds together with the cement as a filler for the shaft of the prosthesis. The stem of the prosthesis is hammered into the femur, the spherical head is attached to it and inserted into the plastic socket. [Pg.274]

Grind infected material of two (or more) antigens on a glass slide in phosphate buffer, pH 6.5, to a dilution of 1 10. [Pg.268]

Add 10 mL of 95% ethanol to the mortar and continue to grind for 2 min. Place a filter paper (Whatmann no. 2, 7 cm) in a funnel and place the funnel in a 250-mL Erlenmeyer flask. With the aid of a glass rod, transfer the supernatant liquid from the mortar to the filter paper. After a few minutes, when about 1 mL of clear filtrate has been collected in the Erlenmeyer flask, lift the funnel and allow a drop of the filtrate to fall on a clean microscope slide. Replace the funnel in the Erlenmeyer flask and allow the filtration to continue. The drop on the microscope slide will rapidly evaporate leaving behind crystals of acetylsalicylic acid. This is a qualitative test showing that the extraction of the active ingredient is successful. Report what you see on the microscope slide on your Report Sheet (3). [Pg.380]

Grind. down all twelve washers until they will slide Into the tube. A file or bench grinder may be used. Take care that the washers remain round and that the hole Is exact center. ... [Pg.12]

The soft squishy character of molybdenum disulfide fmstrated early researchers of the compound. Chemists often grind up a material before trying to dissolve it in acids or other liquids. But molybdenum disulfide cannot be ground up. The material just slides out of the way. [Pg.352]
