We also came up with another interesting statistic in our analysis of these data. On this table (Table III) I have summarized the frequency of commercialization within certain time frames after the expiration of the mandatory 90 days from receipt of the PMN by EPA. As you can see, most companies want to produce and sell their new chemical as soon as possible. We have not had time to analyze these data further but it would be interesting to see if there is any relationship between commercialization time and type of chemical, end use or market, size of company, volume of production, etc. 

The size of the quality organisation and the extent of documented procedures will vary according to the size of company. Independent of size there should be an appreciation that quality systems must be formalised to ensure material consistency. Each manufactured batch must be subjected to the same control, ideally involving pre-running start-up checks, in-process SPC... 

Although this level itself may be comparable to those of American or European companies, the absolute amount is by far smaller because the size of company is small. Also, in reality, there are many overlapped R D programs being conducted in the same domains and in the same directions. 

The Bureau of Labor Statistics computes and publishes incident rates for different industries and sizes of companies each year. The computations exclude death cases. Respondents are mainly companies with over 10 years of experience (28 companies) in remanufacturing of automotive parts. The sizes of companies were as follows 89 % are micro-enterprises employing up to 9 persons, rest of the companies were declaring that their employment is below 49 people. 

Companies use the Internet (or an intranet) to communicate within a company. One of the major problems a company faces is how to facilitate communication between locations, groups and even within the same group at the same location. All sizes of companies profit from this abihty although the larger multinational companies probably benefit the most. There is great benefit in sending communications, reports, questions, and notices to individuals in the company around the world any time of day, to any location, nearly instantly. Most individuals can access their e-mail accounts from home or on the road people are more accessible and thus able to respond to needs of colleagues in a more timely manner. 

Size of company (Cl) Size of the company can be either its number of employees or its market capitalization. 

These preliminary findings have to be validated and investigated in more detail in further studies. For example studies which focus on specific industries or specific sizes of companies seem to be appropriate. The context of small and medium sized enterprises is an especially important area for further research as small and medium-sized enterprises are more highly dependent in terms of then-existence on efficient integration in supply networks, since increasingly they need to respond to pressiues of internationalization and specialization.
