Single resistance

Single resistances can be found from the literature. One of the single resistances is the outflow loss at point 1. The outflow loss is the kinetic energy representing v and therefore = 1 -... [Pg.57]

Empirical tables are used to determine the value of the single resistances. [Pg.60]

Combination of Resistances. The above conversion-time expressions assume that a single resistance controls throughout reaction of the particle. However, the relative importance of the gas film, ash layer, and reaction steps will vary as particle conversion progresses. For example, for a constant size particle the gas film resistance remains unchanged, the resistance to reaction increases as the surface of unreacted core decreases, while the ash layer resistance is nonexistent at the start because no ash is present, but becomes progressively more and more important as the ash layer builds up. In general, then, it may not be reasonable to consider that just one step controls throughout reaction. [Pg.579]

Mechanisms of Resistance. The broad spectrum of effectiveness of induced systemic resistance against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and nematodes, makes it seem unlikely that only a single resistance mechanism is activated. [Pg.55]

The intra particle diffusion model (single resistance) assumes external mass transfer is significant only at initial stages. The internal diffusion parameter, k, is calculated from the plot of dye adsorbed qt versus square root of time [5]. [Pg.443]

Analysis The power transistor and the thermal resistance network associated with it are shown in Fig, 3-47. We notice from the thermal resistance netvrork that there is a single resistance of 20°C/W between the case at Tc = 85 C and the ambient at = 25°C, and thus the rate of heat transfer is... [Pg.191]

In (1.72), (1/kA) represents the resistance to overall heat transfer. It is made up of the single resistances of each transfer process in the series the resistance to convective transfer between fluid 1 and the wall, (l/cqhlj), the conduction resistance in the wall, (convective transfer between the wall and fluid 2, (l/o 22l2). This series approach for overall heat transfer resistance is analogous to that in electrical circuits, where the total resistance to the current is found by the addition of all the single resistances in series. Therefore, the three resistances which the heat flow Q must pass through, are added together. These three are the resistance due to the boundary layer in fluid 1, the conduction resistance in the wall and the resistance to transfer associated with the boundary layer in fluid 2. [Pg.31]

The overall resistance to heat transfer (1/kA) is found by adding all the resistances to convective heat transfer and conduction, as shown in (1.72). Therefore the largest single resistance determines the value for ( /kA). This is especially distinct when the other resistances are very small. It is therefore possible to significantly improve the insulation of a wall by adding a layer which has high resistance to conduction 4/AmTln, or in other words a thick layer of a material with low thermal conductivity. [Pg.33]

Cross-resistance means that a single resistance mechanism causes resistance to several herbicides. The term target-site cross-resistance is used when these herbicides bind to the same target site, whereas nontarget-site cross-resistance is due to a single nontarget-site mechanism (e.g., enhanced metabolic detoxification) that entails resistance across herbicides with different modes of action. [Pg.13]

Use a single resistant transformant (carrying the primary resistance marker) to inoculate 10 mL of LB containing the primary selective antibiotic and incubate overnight at 37 °C. Similarly, use a single colony of E. coli S17-1 X pir pUT mini-Tn5 luxCDABE Tc to inoculate 10 mL of LB containing 100 pg/mL ampicillin. [Pg.228]

This conclusion is not necessarily valid for liquid systems. When the macropore hold-up is significant the form of the breakthrough curve derived from thd dual-resistance diffusion model may differ significantly from the curves derived from single-resistance models (See W. J. Weber, Conference on Fundamentals of Adsorption, Schloss Elmau, Bavaria, May 1983, proceedings published by Engineering Foundation.)... [Pg.244]

The ultimate defonnation capacity of a structure depends on the plastic deformation capacity field of each single resisting member (beams, columns, and walls). [Pg.92]

The impact that the single resistances have on the gross resistance depends on the vehicle and the driving condition. Other criteria with regard to transmissible power include the vehicle proportions, drivetrain layout, and suspension. Figure 35.2 illustrates the horizontal and vertical forces acting on a vehicle during an accelerated uphill drive. [Pg.1046]

Single, resistive termination. The transfer function for a filter depends on both the load and the source impedances hence, a filter is said to be doubly terminated. To avoid complications, the discussion here assumes that source impedance is neghgible (i.e., the filter is singly terminated) and that the load impedance is nonreactive. [Pg.342]

It should be noted that the assumption that the transfer of say a silver ion between silver metal and the electrolyte in a single step reaction is likely in most cases to be a gross sim-plication. In fact it could well be a two or three step reaction with intermediate adatoms. In such a case (11) the interfacial impedance will be much more complex than that corresponding to a single resistance (Ret) parallel with a double layer capacity. Another possibility is that two or three dimensional nucleation is involved. [Pg.269]
