Single planning

The obvious first reason for choosing a double or multiple sample plan (and possibly the only real reason) is the opportunity to take a smaller initial sample, i.e. the ability to make a status decision using a smaller sample than if a single plan were used. This reduction in the QC effort is only achieved when the status decision can be made on the first 1 or 2 samples when a further sample is necessary, the advantage is lost. 

Should a single plan or multiple plans be used ... 

For example, each type of aircraft has different cargo capacity, maximum flying range, and speed and can only fly to certain airports. The maximum number of airports, a plane can serve is two (excluding the hub). Until 1993, UPS used manual planners, who used to take 9 months to produce a single plan In 1994, UPS s Operations Research team, working jointly with the MIT faculty, developed an optimization model, called VOLCANO-Volume, Location and Aircraft Network Optimizer (Armacost et al., 2004).

The type of development, type and number of development wells, recovery factor and production profile are all inter-linked. Their dependency may be estimated using the above approach, but lends itself to the techniques of reservoir simulation introduced in Section 8.4. There is never an obvious single development plan for a field, and the optimum plan also involves the cost of the surface facilities required. The decision as to which development plan is the best is usually based on the economic criterion of profitability. Figure 9.1 represents a series of calculations, aimed at determining the optimum development plan (the one with the highest net present value, as defined in Section 13). 

The HLB system has made it possible to organize a great deal of rather messy information and to plan fairly efficient systematic approaches to the optimiza-tion of emulsion preparation. If pursued too far, however, the system tends to lose itself in complexities [74]. It is not surprising that HLB numbers are not really additive their effective value depends on what particular oil phase is involved and the emulsion depends on volume fraction. Finally, the host of physical characteristics needed to describe an emulsion cannot be encapsulated by a single HLB number (note Ref. 75).

Since HFC-134a likely will be the single largest volume CFG alternative produced, many manufacturers around the world are in the process of or have plans to commercialize it, each under their own trade name. Two forms of lymphatic filariasis are found in India. The Bancroftian form is the most common and accounts for more than 90% of the disease whereas Bmgian filariasis accounts for the rest. In a study carried out in India (6) in 40 patients with Wuchereria Bancwfti filariasis treated with single oral doses, all of the dose levels chosen (25, 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg) were efficacious in clearing microfilariae from the blood of all patients treated. However, after three months some microfilaria recurred in the blood of most patients (Table 5). Further studies are planned and some are underway using different doses and regimens. Ivermectin still appears to hold promise as a new treatment for lymphatic filariasis. 

From Table 9-39 we find that the flexible budgeted overhead cost for a produc tion rate of 12 million kg per month is 190,000. The corresponding variance is 186,000 minus 190,000, or — 4,000, which is favorable Because 4,000 less was spent than was anticipated. Thus, the use of flexible budgeting makes this particular performance look better without changing either the production rate or a single cost of the planned budget.
