Silicone polymers amino silicones

The reaction is surprisingly clean under these vigorous hydrosilation conditions, with no evidence for the formation of l,2-bis[tris(dimethyl-amino)]ethane (32). Thus, very satisfactory processes have been developed for both Tris and vinyl-Tris that do not involve chlorosilane intermediates. Both monomers are suitable intermediates for the preparation of polysilazane preceramic polymers that could be converted thermally to silicon nitride and mixtures of silicon nitride and silicon carbide. [Pg.610]

Summary During the last few years intense research has been focussed on the elaboration of synthetic materials [1-4] based on modified silicon esters. Products with interesting properties were formed by synthesis of a novel group of derived silicon esters. The condensation of carbonyl- and amino groups leads to organotrialkoxysilanes containing azomethine bonds. From these compounds three-dimensional, cross-linked silicon polymers were synthesized by hydrolysis/condensation. [Pg.400]

This modification could be made by plasma polymerization wherein a thin, highly cross-linked and pin hole free film of filler free silicone polymer could be added onto a variety of substrate materials in order to prepare improved blood compatible surfaces (1). Alternatively, gaseous plasma could be used to add new chemical groups to a material surface which could then be used for attaching a variety of biomolecules. By anhydrous ammonia plasma, amino groups can be added to the surface of polypropylene membranes or to the surface of polypropylene beads. These amino groups can then be employed to bind albumin to polypropylene as was done in our previous work in which a quantitative measure of bound protein was... [Pg.155]

The cyclosiloxanes substituted by amino groups or halides may be used for further reactions. In some cases, we were able to selectively cleave the Si-N-bonds with a solution of HCl in THF without destroying the Si404 ring framework (Eq. 4). Compounds such as cyclo-(Cl2SiO)2(Me2SiO)2 (Eq. 4) may of course be used for further modification reactions or may serve as starting compounds for silicon polymers. [Pg.362]

The aim was to understand the molecular mechanisms of water repellency following padding treatment of an initially hydrophilic cotton fabric with an amino-silicone. Knowing as much as possible about the molecular mechanisms should help in designing adequate polymer structures to get the best performance. [Pg.614]

In addition to the commonly encountered silicone compounds listed above, a number of other specialized silicone derivatives may be found in personal care formulations. These substances include siliconized natural waxes, fragrances, sunscreens, pigments, amino acids, minerals, vitamins, botanical extracts, essential oils, fatty acids, fatty alcohols, and the like. The various types of compounds that have been covalently bonded onto silicone polymers are quite extensive and will not be discussed in further detail in this chapter. [Pg.325]

The amino acid sequence ROD (Arg-Gly-Asp) is present in many extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins and has been found to play an important role in cellular growth, differentiation, proliferation, and regulation of overall cell function. Immobilized, synthetic, RGD-containing peptides on solid supports such as polymers and silicon oxide surfaces have been reported to mediate specific surface-cell interactions and to promote cell organization. Studies of cell migration suggest the importance of the surface density of RGD sequences for efficient cell-matrix in-teraction. ... [Pg.215]

Silane coupling agents may contribute hydrophilic properties to the interface, especially when amino functional silanes, such as epoxies and urethane silanes, are used as primers for reactive polymers. The primer may supply much more amine functionality than can possibly react with the resin at the interphase. Those amines that could not react are hydrophilic and, therefore, responsible for the poor water resistance of bonds. An effective way to use hydrophilic silanes is to blend them with hydrophobic silanes such as phenyltrimethoxysilane. Mixed siloxane primers also have an improved thermal stability, which is typical for aromatic silicones [42]. [Pg.796]
