Silence setting

Silence sets the duration of the muted section. Longer Silence dnrations (up to 200 ms) with shorter Sound settings produce popping-type stntters. [Pg.150]

Sound sets the duration of the non-muted section. Longer Sound durations with shorter Silence settings produce effects more like the Amplitude Modulation plug-in. [Pg.151]

In addition to histone deacetylation, histone lysine methylation can also lead to gene silencing which is not blocked by the HDAC inhibitors [6, 51], Several lines of evidence have suggested a connection between cancer and histone lysine methyltrans-ferases (HKMTs) [52], HKMTs catalyze the transfer of methyl group(s) from the cofactor. S -adenosyI-methionine (AdoMet) to some specific lysine residues in the N-terminal histone tails [53, 54], With one exception of Dotl [55], all known HKMTs contain the SET domain which represents a novel structural fold [53, 56], Among SET-domain HKMTs, SET7/9 is one of the best characterized experimentally. It is a... [Pg.345]

There is a school of thought, which believes that HMTases are tumor suppressors especially the lysine methyltransferases because of the loss of SET domain proteins in tumor conditions, exceptions do exist like Ezh2. The well-known example of the above is RIZl, which interacts with Rb protein (again the same tumor suppressor). RIZ-1 is in chromosome lp36 region, which is commonly deleted, in more than a dozen different types of human cancers. Riz-1 expression is commonly silenced in many tumors including breast cancer, liver cancer, colon cancer, neuroblastoma, melanoma, lung cancer and osteosarcoma (Kim et al, 2003). [Pg.408]

To set the tone, the film opens on a dark screen. There is a lengthy silence. Slowly, eerie music swells up and an Orson Welles type voice mechanically intones On this very desert... etc. Gradually, a white wisp of smoke becomes visible on the left, growing larger as it spreads across the screen. [Pg.151]

The inhibitors available for human use, azacitidine and decitabine, have been approved for the treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) [98, 99[. MDS summarizes a set of different conditions that affect the maturation of blood cells. It is a group of bone marrow stem cell malignancies that have a pathogenetic overlap with acute myeloid leukemia, show peripheral blood cytopenias and, in more advanced subtypes, varied degrees of maturation arrest [100]. Both drugs are approved for all subtypes of MDS. Response rates are usually around 30%. The question whether the clinical benefit results more from epigenetic effects and re-activation of silenced maturation factors or more from cytotoxic effects on the immature hyperproliferative cells remains open. [Pg.175]

Then the learned men of that country were gathered together, and strove to discover the trae interpretation of all they had seen. But they were unable to agree until there came forward a man of venerable age, with snowy locks and silvery beard, and arrayed in a flowing purple robe On his head he wore a crown set with brilliant carbuncles. His loins were girded with the girdle of life. His feet were bare, and his words penetrated to the depth of the human soul. He mounted the tribune, and bade the assembly listen to him in silence, since he was sent from above to explain to them the significance of what they had seen. [Pg.4]

Salvia is a consciousness-changing herb that can be used in a vision quest, or in a healing ritual. In the right setting, Salvia makes it possible to see visions. It is an herb with a long tradition of sacred use. It is useful for deep meditation. It is best taken in a quiet, nearly darkroom either alone (if a sitter will not be used, see below for discussion of sitters), or with one or two good friends present. It is should be taken either in silence or (sometimes) with soft pleasant music playing. [Pg.59]

It is important to be sensitive to the texture of words and sentences. The word surely, for example, has an open texture as well as a confidence and reassurance. So in that beautiful phrase of the second Isaiah which is so familiar to us through Handel s setting, Surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, surely conveys an overtone of certainly it is true, but it conveys it in a open form, inviting contemplation and discussion rather than foreclosing it with a cocksureness or false and shallow security. It is indeed, as Saint Peter Damian calls it, the reticence of Holy Writ wherein silence itself cries out that some greatness is at hand. Or, to take another example from an early author, consider Saint Paul s statement on the meaning of the death of Christ Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended... [Pg.371]

This weighting effect over time was modelled in a very simple way, the speech frames were categorized in two sets, one set of speech active frames and one set of silent frames. By weighting the noise disturbance occurring in silent frames with a factor Wsu between 0.0 (silences are not taken into account) and 0.5 (silences are equally important as speech) the effect was quantified. [Pg.314]
