Silence sets the duration of the muted section. Longer Silence dnrations (up to 200 ms) with shorter Sound settings produce popping-type stntters. 

Sound sets the duration of the non-muted section. Longer Sound durations with shorter Silence settings produce effects more like the Amplitude Modulation plug-in.

There is a school of thought, which believes that HMTases are tumor suppressors especially the lysine methyltransferases because of the loss of SET domain proteins in tumor conditions, exceptions do exist like Ezh2. The well-known example of the above is RIZl, which interacts with Rb protein (again the same tumor suppressor). RIZ-1 is in chromosome lp36 region, which is commonly deleted, in more than a dozen different types of human cancers. Riz-1 expression is commonly silenced in many tumors including breast cancer, liver cancer, colon cancer, neuroblastoma, melanoma, lung cancer and osteosarcoma (Kim et al, 2003).

The inhibitors available for human use, azacitidine and decitabine, have been approved for the treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) [98, 99[. MDS summarizes a set of different conditions that affect the maturation of blood cells. It is a group of bone marrow stem cell malignancies that have a pathogenetic overlap with acute myeloid leukemia, show peripheral blood cytopenias and, in more advanced subtypes, varied degrees of maturation arrest [100]. Both drugs are approved for all subtypes of MDS. Response rates are usually around 30%. The question whether the clinical benefit results more from epigenetic effects and re-activation of silenced maturation factors or more from cytotoxic effects on the immature hyperproliferative cells remains open.

This weighting effect over time was modelled in a very simple way, the speech frames were categorized in two sets, one set of speech active frames and one set of silent frames. By weighting the noise disturbance occurring in silent frames with a factor Wsu between 0.0 (silences are not taken into account) and 0.5 (silences are equally important as speech) the effect was quantified.
