Shrubs watering

A positive feedback between vegetation and atmospheric CO2 will occur if biomass declines. This will happen to the extent that climatic warming causes increased water stress, either through decreased precipitation or increased evap-otransporation, particularly on soils of low water-holding capacity. Decreases in soil nutrient availability, either directly caused by drought or indirectly caused by replacement with taxa with more recalcitrant litter, may further decrease the net release of carbon from the biosphere to the atmosphere. Positive feedback will also arise if the current standing biomass of trees is replaced by small trees, shrubs, and herbs that store less carbon. 

Higher salt concentrations (enhanced water conductivity) from urban and industrial waste waters result in lower dilution. Salinity limits the distribution of sensitive plant and animal taxa, and triggers the abundance of others. The presence of the shrub Tamarix canariensis has increased in the saline soils of the low flow affected Tablas de Daimiel (Spain), while the once dominant RopM/Ms alba retreated. 

The tannins are synthesized by plants and are abundantly distributed in many different forms of plant life. Common sources of tannins include for example, the bark, leaves, fruit and roots of many plants most tannins, however, have been and are still derived from the bark of a few trees and shrubs, such as oak, chestnut, hemlock, mangrove, quebracho, and wattle, from which they are generally extracted with water. 

The family Hamamelidaceae consists of 26 genera and about 100 species of shrubs or tress known to contain tannins and iridoids. The leaves are alternate, simple, and often palmately lobed. The flowers are small and appear in spikes. The fruits are woody, capsular, and scepticidal. In Western medicine, the dried leaves of Hamamelis virginiana (hamamelis, British Pharmaceutical Codex, 1963), yielding not less that 20% of alcohol (45%)-soluble extractive, have been used as astringents for the treatment of hemorrhoids. Hamamelis water (British Pharmaceutical Codex, 1969) made from the stems has been used as a cooling application to sprains and bruises and as a styptic remedy. It is also used in cosmetics and as active ingredient of eye lotions. 

Mixed oak forest, southern France, experimentally irradiated for 18 years by a, 37Cs source at dose rates between 0.3 and 116 mGy/h, equivalent to a yearly rate between 2.6 and 1016 Gy At 60-100 mGy/h (525-876 Gy yearly), all trees, shrubs, and litter were absent low overall insect density soil deficient in carbon, nitrogen, and water. At 15 mGy/h (131 Gy yearly), woody plants were present, but visibly abnormal 6... 

A plant s requirement for water varies with the stage it is at in its life cycle. Seedlings, which have a small root system, are very susceptible to water shortage, and may never recover if they dry out Newly planted trees and shrubs will need additional watering in dry conditions for a year or two, but once they are established, most will survive unaided.
