Shielding total

Special Tubes A variety of special forms of the pitot tube have been evolved. Folsom (loc. cit.) gives a description of many of these special types together with a comprehensive bibliography. Included are the impact tube for boundary-layer measurements and shielded total-pressure tubes. The latter are insensitive to angle of attack up to 40°. [Pg.13]

Experiment 6. Fractional Distillation of a Mixture of Benzene and Toluene. Fractionally distil about 40 ml. of a mixture of equal volumes of benzene and toluene, using the type of fractionating column shown in Fig. ii(b), in which about 18-20 cm. of the column are actually filled with glass sections, but in which the cotton-wool lagging is not used. Distil very slowlyy so that the total distillation occupies about hours. Shield the apparatus very carefully from draughts. Collect the fractions having the b.ps (a) 80-85°, ( ) 85-107°, (c) 107-111°. A sharp separation should be obtained, e.g.y these fractions should have volumes of about 19, 2, and 17 ml. respectively. [Pg.28]

A patent also serves a defensive function. It provides the patentee with a partial or total shield that prevents others from patenting inventions which would ultimately restrict the patentee s commercial activity in the marketplace. [Pg.25]

These are an itnprovised version of a totally enclosed motor to protect its live parts from ingress of water, rain, snow or airborne particles etc. This is achieved by providing them with additional protection such as labyrinths at joints such as bearing end covers, centrifugal discs, end shields and terminal box and giving the outer... [Pg.21]

For a near-total shielding of the field produced by the main cotiductors (i.e. for - /. to be very low), it is essential to have the thickness of the enclosure is netir to 5p as possible. But this m iy prove to be a costly proposition. In addition, ti higher induced current in the enclosure will also tnean higher losses. This hits been established by computing the cost of the enclosure and capitalizing the cost of losses for minimum losses in the eticlosure... [Pg.939]

Inlet and diseharge temperatures are the stagnation temperatures at the respeetive points and should be measured within an aeeuraey of 1 °F (0.55 °C). When the veloeity of the gas stream is more than 125 fps (36.6 mps), the veloeity effeet should be ineluded in the temperature measurement with a total temperature probe. This probe is a thermoeouple with its hot junetion provided with a shielded eup. The eup opening points upstream. A trade-off has to be made in a field test situation where the gas is not elean. [Pg.698]

The philosophy of any EMI shield is to encourage eddy currents to flow within the surfaces, thus dissipating the noise energy. Also, the assembled enclosure should act as a gaussian enclosure where there is good electrical conduction totally around the enclosure. So removable hatches and enclosure members need very good electrical connections around their peripheries. RF gasketing is sometimes used in particularly troublesome cases. [Pg.245]

Ground radiation is from deposited radioactive particles. The deposition rate from a radioactive cloud without rain (dry deposition) is so low that the ground radiation dose is about the same as the inhalation dose. A heavy rain, however, may wash out enough particles from the plume to make ground radiation the dominant contributor to the total dose in a limited area. Rain will also attenuate radiation by leaching the radioactivity to be shielded by the soil and by moving it to streams for further removal. [Pg.324]

Benzene (80 ml) is placed in a suitable pressure vessel (soft drink bottle or hydrogenation bottle) and chilled to 5°. The bottle is weighed, and a gas dispersion tube connected to a cylinder of butadiene is immersed in the benzene. Butadiene is introduced into the flask with continued cooling until a total of 32 g has been transferred. Pulverized maleic anhydride (50 g) is added to the bottle, which is then capped or stoppered with a stopper wired in place. The bottle is allowed to stand at room temperature for 12 hours, then is heated (behind a safety shield) to 100° for 5 hours. The bottle is cooled, then opened, and the contents are transferred to an Erlenmeyer flask. The mixture is heated to boiling, and petroleum ether is added until there is a slight turbidity. After cooling, the product is collected, mp 101-103° (yield 90%). [Pg.72]

The concrete block walls of the cell housing the generator tube and associated components are 1.7 meters thick. The facility also includes a Kaman Nuclear dual-axis rotator assembly for simultaneous transfer and irradiation of reference and unknown sample, and a dual Na iodide (Nal) scintillation detector system designed for simultaneous counting of activated samples. Automatic transfer of samples between load station to the rotator assembly in front of the target, and back to the count station, is accomplished pneumatically by means of two 1.2cm (i.d.) polyethylene tubes which loop down at both ends of the system and pass underneath the concrete shielding thru a pipe duct. Total one-way traverse distance for the samples is approx 9 meters. In performing quantitative analysis for a particular element by neutron activation, the usual approach is to compare the count rates of an unknown sample with that of a reference standard of known compn irradiated under identical conditions... [Pg.358]

Submerged electrode hot water boilers operate in a totally flooded condition, and electrode insulating shields are mechanically adjusted by an automatic control system to provide the required HW temperature. As the insulating shields are adjusted between the electrodes and the neutral walls, so the current path is lengthened and heat generation (and thus output) is decreased. [Pg.28]

Most acid cleaning processes do not totally dissolve the available scales, oxides, and other debris, and where localized crevice shielding and redeposition takes place, it may be difficult to subsequently effect the complete neutralization of pockets of acid. These areas are then subject to vigorous attack once the boiler is bought back online. [Pg.254]

A common origin paramagnetic contribution can subsequently be obtained as the difference between the LORG total shielding tensor and the diamagnetic contribution from eq.(29), i.e. [Pg.203]

As indicated, the possibility of orbital decomposition is retained in the diamagnetic and paramagnetic terms in eqs.(29,30). The value for the paramagnetic shielding contribution extracted via eq.(30) does not, of course, correspond to a well-defined basis set, but is at the same level of numerical quality as the LORG calculation used for the total shielding. [Pg.203]

The actual ionization energy of a helium atom is 3.94 X 10 J, about twice the fully screened value and about half the totally unscreened value. Screening is incomplete because both helium electrons occupy an extended region of space, so neither is completely effective at shielding the other from the +2 charge of the nucleus. [Pg.507]
