Fig. 5.7. Evolutionary tracks for Z = 0.02 (near solar metallicity) stars with different masses in the HR diagram. (Luminosities are in solar units.) Points labelled 1 define the ZAMS and points labelled 2 the terminal main sequence (TAMS), the point where central hydrogen is exhausted. The Schonberg-Chandrasekhar limit may be reached either before or after this (for M > 1.4 Af0). Points marked 3 show the onset of shell hydrogen-burning. Few stars are found in the Hertzsprung gap between point 4 and point 5 , where the surface convection zone has grown deep enough to bring nuclear processed material to the surface in the first dredge-up. Adapted from Iben (1967). Fig. 5.7. Evolutionary tracks for Z = 0.02 (near solar metallicity) stars with different masses in the HR diagram. (Luminosities are in solar units.) GM will also provide 13 fuel cell powered vehicles while Shell Hydrogen LLC established New York State s first hydrogen service station in the New York City metropolitan area in 2006. This is part of the U.S. Department of Energy s Infrastructure Demonstration and Validation project. [Pg.171]

A 250 kilowatt system is planned for a site in Norway. The system will be operated by Norske Shell to demonstrate that CO2 can be economically recovered. The CO2 recovery technology is being developed by Shell Hydrogen. The CO2 could be sequestered in underground reservoirs or could be used for special applications such as fish farms or agricultural greenhouses. The test system will be sited at a fish hatchery. The system is expected to begin operation in early 2003. [Pg.34]

The COSMO solvent model has been used to simulate the influence of water on the electronic spectrum of A -methylacetamide [81], and the results was compared with the results of molecular dynamics simulations (where the electronic spectrum were calculated as an average over 90 snapshots from MD simulations). Most of the hydration effects were found to come from the first solvation shell hydrogen-bonded water molecules, and the continuum model does not properly account for these effects. The rotatory strengths were not calculated directly in ref. [81]. However, the results were used to model ECD spectra of peptides via the coupled oscillator model, with satisfactory result. [Pg.216]

Jeroen van der Veer, Shell s vice chairman, said in April 2003 remarks on this scenario, We estimate that the initial investment required in the US alone to supply just 2% of cars with hydrogen by 2020 is around 20 billion. 39 This suggests that the scenario of serving 25 percent of cars in 2025 would be very cosdy. And, indeed, Shell Hydrogen s former chief executive officer, Donald P. H. Huberts, told the House Science Committee in March 2003, Further build-up of the hydrogen infrastructure [beyond 2 percent] will require hundreds of billions of US dollars. 40... [Pg.151]
