Sewage mixing tank

Except for the sewer, all utilities could be easily piped into the area. A water heater would have to be istalled, however, since the nearest one in the building was some distance away and already used to capacity. The concrete floor would have to be broken up to accommodate the sewer. A sewage mixing tank would be installed beneath the floor with access for sampling by a waste water inspector. 

In some Norwegian sewage sludge and wastewater treatment plants iron oxide filters have been installed with success. The filter consists of mixed wood chips and iron oxide, and the odorous compounds are oxidized in the filter. The total odour strength was measured in such a filter where the air from sludge tanks providing an offensive odour was finely dispersed at the 3m2 bottom of the filter box (total filter volume 3m3, containing 300 kg iron oxide). 

In the construction industry, where it is used in the production of concrete structures, such as paving-stones, tubes, and sewage tanks, in ready-mixed concrete, and in prefabricated elements ...

In sewage treatment plant processes as well as in chemical and mining processes, gas is sparged in the hquid. The impeller of the mixer is then used to provide dispersion of the gas and circulation of the tank contents. For radial machines, a small radial impeller is installed at the bottom to mix the gas. In the case of hydrofoils, different approaches are used. If the shaft and blades are hollow, gas may be pumped through the shaft and blades. In other apphcations, the impeller is contained within a cylinder that is within the tank. This prevents flooding the impeller with gas. 

Let s analyze the steady-state operation to determine the volumetric flow rates treated and recycle- We will assume that (1) the sewage density is independent of the bacteria concentration or organic matter concentration, (2) the process is at steady state, (3) the aeration tank is well mixed, (4) the flow rate of the inlet air is equal to the flow rate of the outlet air plus CO2, and (5) the growth rate of the bacteria is zero (this is controlled by the flow rate of air to the aeration tank). 

All the sludge is collected into tanks called digesters. Here it is mixed with bacteria which destroy the harmful substances, and at the same time produce methane gas. Methane is a good fuel, so it is often used to make electricity for the sewage plant.
