Serum p2-microglobulin

Fig. 12. Serum P2-microglobulin in relation to age in a population of 121 healthy women and 121 healthy men, 20-89 years old. No sex difference was found, but die influence of age on glomerular filtration rate and thus on serum P2-microglobulin is evident. Fig. 12. Data from a 7-year follow-up study in another Cd-polluted area (Nagasaki) showed that, in both men and women, serum p2-microglobulin and creatinine, as well as urinary total protein and p2-microglobulin were significantly related to mortality independent of age as assessed by the Cox s proportional hazards model [111]. In advanced cases, the excess mortality of subjects with Cd-induced renal tubular dysfunction might, to some extent, be ascribed to a reduction in GFR. [Pg.796]

Studies of renal function in stainless steel welders, whose exposure is mainly to chromium(VI) compounds, were negative. Stainless steel welders had significantly increased (p<0.001) levels of urinary chromium, increased clearance of chromium, and increased serum creatinine compared with controls, but no differences were found in the levels of retinol binding protein, p2-microglobulin or other indices of kidney damage (Verschoor et al. 1988). Similar negative results were found in another group of stainless steel welders (Littorin et al. 1984). [Pg.70]

In a study involving 203 Cd-exposed subjects with renal dysfunction and 80 non-exposed subjects an association was observed between Cd-induced renal dysfunction and osteopenia [94]. The relationship between biological parameters such as urinary p2-microglobulin and serum creatinine, calcium and phosphorus, and microdensitometric indices were analyzed using multivariate analysis. Age, urinary p2-microglobulin, and serum creatinine were significantly associated with... [Pg.793]

P2-microglobulin excretion is considered as one of the best indicators of early Cd-induced nephropathy since serum concentrations are stable and analysis of P2-inicroglobulin using radio-, latex-, or ELISA s is sensitive and accurate [57]. [Pg.512]

The values of P2 -microglobulin excretion in the urine were 30—370 Mg/24 hours. The level in the serum was 0.8 to 2.4 Mg/ml. The results of 5 of 17 patients, that is 29,4%, showed an increased P2 -microglobulin excretion in the urine ranging between 938 and 10 000 Mg/24 hours. In the serum we found an increased P2 -microglobulin level in 11 of 17 patients, that is 64.7%. The values lay between 2.97 and 9.6 Mg/ml. 4 of 17 patients showed uric acid excretion ranging between 600 and 979 mg/24 hours. A typical urinary acidity of about 5.4 we found in 14 of 17 patients, that is 82.3%. [Pg.110]
