Symbols separated by commas represent equivalent recommendations. Symbols for physical and chemical quantities should be printed in italic type. In a single sentence, refer to numbers (as either numerals or words) in the same way. In excerpt 14D, "five years" was used instead of "5 years" to be consistent with "eight projects." (See Numbers and Units in appendix A.)...

The predicate reduces to expresses a relation of theory reduction only if its arguments in true sentences refer to things such as theories, or scientific models, or fragments of theories.
