Recently, preparation of well-ordered periodic meso-structured hybrid materials was reported with (MeO)3Si-R-Si(OMe)3(R = alkylene, phenylene and 2-butylene) precursors210. Using an evaporation-induced self-assembly, thin films with a mesoporous organization can be prepared, and their physical properties (thickness, dielectric constant, modulus and hardness) are closely dependent on the nature of the R group. 

The LBL, in-situ self-assembled LBL films of PPy, PANI, polyhexylthiophene, and poly(ethylene dioxythiophene) (PEDT) and hybrid cross-linked nanocomposite thin film for NOx gas sensing were fabricated [68,70,101-106] for NO2 sensing application. Layered films of conducting polymer nanocomposite films were fabricated similar to the one explained in Sections 2.2.1 and 2.2.2.

Another type of noncovalent interaction, namely electrostatic ones, has recently been exploited by Wang et al. in the fabrication of a hybrid film containing a water-soluble poly(thiophene) derivative and CdSe NCs.141 In this case CdSe NCs were functionalized with 11-mercaptoundecanonic acid (MUA) molecules prior to their self-assembly with side chain-functionalized poly(thiophene), that is, poly(3-(3 -thienyloxy)propyltrimethylammonium bromide) (P3TOPA).
