Enhanced thermal conductivity useful in advanced packaging of electronic components could be achieved through selective dispersion of conductive high aspect ratio nanofillers into a polymer blend where they could segregate to form self-assembled conducting pathways. Mechanical properties could similarly benefit (Xuet al. 2013). [Pg.1449]

Bates et al. reported the construction and characterization of a gold nanoparticle wire assembled using Mg -dependent RNA-RNA interactions for the future assembly of practical nanocircuits [31]. They used magnesium ion-mediated RNA-RNA loop-receptor interactions, in conjunction with 15 nm or 30 nm gold nanoclusters derivatized with DNA to prepare self-assembled nanowires. A wire was deposited between lithographically fabricated nanoelectrodes and exhibited non-linear activated conduction by electron hopping at 150-300 K (Figure 16). [Pg.116]

Successive H-bond urea self-assembly of 4 and sol-gel transcription steps yield preferential conduction pathways within the hybrid membrane materials. Crystallographic, microscopic and transport data confirm the formation of self-organized molecular channels transcribed in solid dense thin-layer membranes. The ionic transport across the organized domains illustrates the power of the supramolecular approach for the design of continual hydrophilic transport devices in hybrid membrane materials by self-organization (Figure 10.8) [42-44]. [Pg.321]

Thiophene and its derivatives, however, have become the most-studied chalcogen-containing monomers. Doped (oxidised) PT is highly conducting, and 3-alkyl-substituted PTs are soluble, easily characterised polymers,83 85 see Figure 7. Self-assembly is an important consideration in these substituted PTs, allowing control of the degree of planarity, n-orbital overlap, and hence optical... [Pg.772]
