The synthesis of three-dimensional conjugated polymers is of current interest. Conductive polymer gels are responsive to external stimuli such as changes in solvent composition, pH and temperature. These materials could be useful for controlled drug release, as selective permeation membranes, as chemomecha-nical materials, etc. 

Electrically conducting polymer gels (cf. Sect. 3.9) can be combined with other materials to establish bimorphs. The bimorph of the structure shown in Fig. 23 is prepared by successive electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole and then 3-hexylthiophene.
