The present study indicates the use of a fiuoride specific ion electrode as a means of measuring fluoride as a specific pollutant, but more to the point, the study indicates the possibility of environmental restoration when specific emissions are curtailed. If the abatement program is continued, apart from occasional accidental lapses, a significant result of the unique deltaic sedimentary fluorite deposit may be anticipated— fishing should be better there than in many places of Tampa Bay where absence of a firm bottom contributes to turbidity problems during storms and prevents benthic plants from using a useful niche. 

Of the principal minerals of Ca listed in Table 1, the most important ores are the various deposits of CaCOj, especially limestones, which occur as immense sedimentary beds over extensive parts of the earth s surface. Extraction of Ca from CaCOj is a simple and relatively inexpensive process. Although the other Ca-bearing minerals are rarely considered as potential Ca sources, they are widely distributed and extensively mined fluorite and apatite for their fluoride and phosphate content, gypsum and anhydrite for their use in construction. 

Spectral parameters of the structured green luminescence (Fig. 4.4d) are absolutely similar to those of luminescence in fluorite after thermal treatment (Tarashchan 1978). Principally, during the calcination of the sedimentary phosphates new mineralogical phases, including fluorite, may be formed. Minerals of economic importance within sedimentary formations include, hut are not limited to fluorite, barite, phosphorite, and oolitic hematite. Fluorite is utili/ed us a flux in steelniakiitg and when of high quality as lenses and prisms in the optical industry. Barite is an essential mineral used m gas- and oil-well drilling. Phosphorite, a product of chemical precipitation from seawater, when ircaled with sulfuric acid, produces superphosphate fertilizer, (.killtic hematite deposits of extensive size are important sources of iron ore. 

Other dissolved components originate by reaction of the fluid with the sedimentary phases, K-feldspar, calcite, dolomite, anhydrite, celestite, barite and fluorite. Significant quantities of Pb, Zn and Fe have been mobilized as well.
