Security roles

Governor Tom Ridge points out the security role for public service professionals ... [Pg.93]

Clearly define cyber security roles, responsibilities, and authorities for managers, system administrators, and users. [Pg.132]

At minimum, chemical industrial facilities should identify a single, designated individual responsible for overall security, even if other security roles and responsibilities will likely be dispersed throughout the organization. [Pg.218]

Feature 5—Defined security roles and employee expectations... [Pg.223]

Does the system allow multiple security roles ... [Pg.296]

It is not uncommon for military personnel to provide police and security roles. For example, when tornadoes strike communities and building debris creates opportunities for looting, states often call in the National Guard. The soldiers provide the manpower to help maintain pubhc order and protect damaged property. In some situations, the soldiers... [Pg.413]

The business activity of the organi2ation dictates quaUty requirements for the LIMS. Security and regulatory requirements for LIMS data define the level of effort expended to vahdate a LIMS and the data being stored. In addition, the quahty of the hardware and software used to implement the LIMS both play a role in determining overall system quahty. [Pg.517]

At first PNL focused on nuclear technology and the environmental and health effects of radiation, but through the years expanded its mission to cover nearly every field of basic science to solve problems in the areas of environment, energy, and national security. Environmental issues and cleanup still encompass two-thirds of PNL work in the 1990s, but PNL has strengthened its role in regional electric power issues as well. [Pg.818]

Lighting need not be devoted to security, and indeed most lighting installations have a dual role. Where security is a required feature, the installation needs to be very carefully specified and designed to achieve optimum protection. [Pg.168]

Compromises have to be struck between the different requirements and the restrictions implied. A deep knowledge of the actual task is essential, and for this reason it not possible to provide prescriptive prevention measures such measures have to be worked out by those involved in the actual processes of a task. The security person appointed can only act in an advisory role, although it is likely to be his responsibility to initiate the preliminary risk evaluation. [Pg.34]

Once the key role of the overpotential with respect to (H20)/Pt-OH,ds securing active surface sites has been realized, new light is shed on the Mn—O or M—OH... [Pg.28]

The most essential question is why the CO-free sites are secured for H2 adsorption and oxidation. Watanabe and Motoo proposed a so-called bifunctional mechanism originally found at Pt electrodes with various oxygen-adsorbing adatoms (e.g., Ru, Sn, and As), which facilitate the oxidation of adsorbed COad at Pt sites [Watanabe and Motoo, 1975a Watanabe et al., 1985]. This mechanism has been adopted for the explanation of CO-tolerant HOR on Pt-Ru, Pt-Sn, and Pt-Mo alloys [Gasteiger et al., 1994, 1995], and recently confirmed by in sim FTIR spectroscopy [Yajima et al., 2004]. To investigate the role of such surface sites, we examined the details of the alloy surface states by various methods. [Pg.320]

In a GLP-compliant laboratory, a data system must meet explicit requirements guaranteeing the validity, quality, and security of the collected data. Operational qualification (OQ) must be performed after any new devices are installed in the laboratory system and whenever service or repair are performed. The role of OQ is to demonstrate that the instrument functions according to the operational specifications in its current laboratory environment. If environmental conditions are highly variable, OQ should be checked at the extremes in addition to normal ambient conditions. Performance qualification (PQ) must be performed following any new installation and whenever the configuration of the system has been changed. PQ demonstrates that the instrument performs according to the specifications appropriate for its routine use. [Pg.1038]

RESEARCH UNIVERSITIES ARE IN THE MIDST OF MAJOR CHANGE. Historically, the research universities have been supported by the Government with two theories in mind (1) national security is important, and science and technology are critical to a strong defense and (2) human health is important. The interest in human health persists, an interest in national security persists, but the adversary has given up. The Soviet Union no longer exists. The question now is, What is the rationale for the support of universities—support in the post-Cold War era The Department of Defense, which has nurtured an important set of activities, has a role in electronics and devices, structural materials, and high-performance or advanced-performance materials. [Pg.49]

Chapter 11 addresses national and personal security, both the role that the chemical sciences can play in dealing with terrorist threats and the other ways in which national and personal security depend on current and future advances. There are serious challenges in this area. How can we detect chemical or biological attacks How can we deal with them when they are detected How can we provide improved materials and weapons to our armed forces, and to our civilian police What can we contribute to increase the security of the average citizen We conclude that this is an area where the chemical sciences are particularly central and relevant. [Pg.5]
