Screw Feeder Types

Screw feeders are normally subjected to flood feed of a bulk material over the exposed inlet section of the screw. The volume of material moved by the feeder is then dependent upon the speed of rotation of the screw. In a wider sense the term screw feeder applies to screw conveyors that normally operate with their feed rate controlled by prior equipment, but act as feeders by controlling the rate of discharge when material in the supply channel completely covers the screw at the inlet point. These circumstances apply in hoppers subjected to surge loads, batch fills, or products accumulated in the supply hopper if the screw is stationary for a short period. Such applications are here termed coUectmg screw feeders , and screw conveyor feeders , but considerations relative to screw feeders of all types bear strongly upon the design of such equipment and their feed channels. [Pg.39]

Mill feeders attached to the feed trunnion of the conical mill and used to pass the feed into the mill without backspill are of several types. A batch-type reactor equipped with a screw feeder and mixer is offered by US patent [49]. A special grate is mounted inside the reactor, above the cracked melted waste plastics mixture. Scraped waste plastics which are submitted to the cracking reactor melt at the grate and fall down to the reaction mixture. As in the case of previous patent description, in the course of cracking process a mixer of a special construction scrapes coke form the reactor walls and then coke is removed from the specially shaped reactor bottom by a screw transporter. The DWSA installation can be divided into two main parts. The dried and crushed wood fuel is pressurised in a lock-hopper system to a level which basically is determined by the pressure ratio of the gas turbine, and is fed by screw feeders into the gasifier a few meters above the bottom. The operating ten erature of the gasifier is 950 - 1000 C and the pressure is approximately 17 bar, The gasifier is of a circulating fluidized bed type and consists of the gasifier itself, cyclone and cyclone return leg.
