A metier is an array of individual extmsion positions on one machine. The yam is collected as a package, eg, bobbin, tube, pirn, at each metier position and removed from the machine at regular intervals to maintain a constant supply of yam on each package. The package may contain 0.5—7.0 kg of yam. Bobbin yam may contain a slight twist, ie, ca 0.08 turns per cm, whereas yam taken up on tubes may have zero twist. The yam is transferred from bobbins to different packages for sale. The product may contain a twist of 0.3—8.0 turns per cm. At present, compacted yam is more popular than low twist yam. [Pg.297]

Tablet Press. The main components of a tablet compression machine (press) are the dies, which hold a measured volume of material to be compressed (granulation), the upper punches which exert pressure on the down stroke, and the lower punches which move upward after compaction to eject the tablets from the dies. Mechanical components deflver the necessary pressure. The granulation is fed from a hopper with a feed-frame on rotary-type presses and a feeding shoe on single-punch presses. A smooth and even flow ensures good weight and compression uniformity. Using the proper formulation, demixing in the hopper is minimized. Tablet Press. Pellet Mills. Pellet mills differ from roU briquetting and compacting machines in that the particulates are compressed and formed into agglomerates by extmsion through a die rather than by squeezing as they are carried into the nip between two roUs. Several types of equipment that use the extmsion principle are available. The die may be a horizontal perforated plate with rollers acting on its upper surface to press material through the plate. [Pg.117]
