EP adhesives come as fabric- or glass-supported films, pastes, and viscous liquids [208,212]. They are often supplied in solvent. The pastes are most useful in situations where gap filling is required [208]. A wide variety of epoxies are available. Some of the producers are Bloomingdale, Shell (EponICI [formerly Hysol] (Hysol ), CIBA-Geigy (Araldite )i 3M (Scotch Weld ), and Amicom (Uniset ). There are many more. [Pg.932]

More recent viscoelastic 2C acrylate adhesives often adhere to low-energy surfaces as well, making them suitable for adhesion to polyolefins without pretreatment (3 M Scotch-Weld DP 8005). The 2C acrylate adhesives are often supplied in double cartridges (side-by-side cartridges), whereby the flow-mix principle is used. Users process the adhesive like a 1C system. These acrylate adhesives are transparent and UV-stable, making them suitable for braiding glass. They can also be painted over. [Pg.237]

An example of a 100% solid, non-flammable, heat-activated hot-melt adhesive recommended for structural bonding of aluminum, steel, copper, brass, titanium, fabric, and some plastics is 3M Company s Scotch -Weld Thermoplastic Adhesive Film 4060. Strength data are shown in Table 5.5. " Bonding using this clear, amber, unsupported film adhesive takes place rapidly. The speed of bonding is hmited only by the heat-up time required to reach the optimum bonding temperature of 149°C at a pressure sufficient to maintain contact between the surfaces to be bonded. The adhesive... [Pg.91]

Most phenoUc resole adhesives are supplied in liquid form where the adhesive is dissolved in snitable solvent(s). However, there are some exceptions where the adhesive can be supplied as a readily handleable film. Notable examples are Redux 775 Film (resole/PVF) aud the 3 Ms range, which includes Scotch-Weld AF 6, AF 10, AF 31, AF 32, and so on (resole/NBR). [Pg.320]

In the first case [28], a tapered lap joint was considered having two CPRP composite laminate thick bars as adherents. The shape and dimension of the specimen is given in Pigure 1(a). Total thickness of the laminate is 10 mm The laminate is made of woven (W) and unidirectional (UD) laminae of CP and epoxy matrix having the stacking sequence of [45w / O5 ud / (0/452/ O2/ 452/ 0)w / O5 UD /45w]. The adopted adhesive was the 3M Scotch-Weld 9323 B/A bi-component epoxy. [Pg.106]

Epoxy based adhesives also work well with Celanex reinforced resins. Some suggested epoxy adhesives are Scotch-Weld 2214 and 2216, manufactured by the 3M Co., St. Paul, MN. Scotch-Weld 2214 is a one-part epoxy which can be cured in 40 min at 120°C (250°F). Scotch-Weld 2216 is a two-part system which cures in 24 h at room temperature. Both of these adhesives gpve tensile shear strengths in excess of 500 psi and are resistant to such environments as fuels, salt spray, and air up to 93° C (200° F) continuous and (250°-300° F) short-term. Many other epoxy-based adhesives are also suitable for use with Celanex Another method of joining Celanex is with adhesive bonding tape. One such tape, Bostik... [Pg.299]

Table 14.3 contains data that compares the results of plasma treatment and sodium etching for four fluo-ropolymers. Peel strengths of untreated and treated samples were measured by bonding them into T-peel specimen using the flexibilized epoxy adhesive Scotch-Weld 3553 (available from 3M Corp.). The laminates were cured for several hours at 70°C and peel tested at 12.5 cm/min pull rate. Polytetrafluoroethylene does not accept plasma treatment as well as PEA and FEP, as indicated by its relatively low peel strength. Sodium etching is the only effective method of modifying the surface of PTFE. [Pg.455]

Phenolic adhesives were also used in the late 1950s for helicopter rotor-blade bonding. Redux 775 (PVF-phenolic) was used in Sud Aviation s Alouette in the late 1950s and Scotch-Weld adhesives AF-6, etc. (nitrile-phenolics) are currently in use in Westlands Sea King helicopter (q.v.). [Pg.299]
