Find the quantity of sodium chloride to be used in compounding the following prescription. The values of sodium chloride equivalent of epinephrine HC1 and scopolamine HBr are 0.29 and 0.12, respectively. 

Antlspasmodic 2 to 3 mg/kg/day divided every 4 to 6 hours and at bedtime. SCOPOLAMINE HBr (Hyoscine HBr) Give subcutaneously or IM may give IV after dilution with Sterile Water for Injection.

Acid hydrolysis of this new alkaloid with 10% HCl gave (-)-tropic acid and a hydrolysate whose spectral data, H-and C-NMR and electron-impact (El) MS, were completely identical with that of 3a, 6p-dihydroxytropane HCl. This evidence indicated the hydrolysate to be the enantiomer of 3a, 6P-dihydroxytropane HCl. Concomitant with the structural confirmation by preparing the alkaloid from (-)-scopolamine HBr using Raney Ni, this new tropane alkaloid was characterized as 7P-hydroxyhyoscyamine [12]. 

Column A column (30 cm x 3.9 mm) packed with p-Bondapak Cie (10 pm). 1-Hyoscyamine and scopolamine HBr were used as the external standards. 

PCMG as its chloride (Abbott Laboratories), and scopolamine-HBr (Sandoz) were used. Solutions were freshly prepared daily. PCMG was injected in a solution containing (mM) citric acid 3.7 Na2HPQ4 12.6. Scopolamine was dissolved in saline. 

For drug identification and determination of the alkaloid content, DAB 10 describes a TI.C comparison with alkaloid mixtures containing defined ratios of atropine-SO, to scopolamine-HBr (T1-T3). Identification of the drug is then based on the similarity of colour intensity and zone size between the standard solutions and drug extracts. Belladonnae folium (1) the ratio of hyoscyamine (R, 0.25) to scopolamine (R, 0.4) corresponds to that of T1 at about 3 1. Both alkaloids are also pre.senf in the roots and seed.s.
