Scientific and technical information exchange

STIX (scientific and technical information exchange) fonts were developed by a group of six scientific publishers to establish a comprehensive set of fonts that contains essentially every character that might be needed to publish a technical article in any scientific discipline. STIX fonts are available as a free download, under license, at www.stixfonts. org. A white paper by Tim Ingolsby on the STIX fonts project is available atwww.aipservices.org/newsroom/white papers/pdf/STIX-fonts.pdf. [Pg.357]

The Convention provides the basis for the OPCW to monitor the destruction of existing stocks of chemical weapons and the facilities used to produce chemical weapons, as well as by checking many industrial sites to ensure that new chemical weapons are not produced. The OPCW also promotes international cooperation and the exchange of scientific and technical information, so that people and governments can benefit from the peaceful uses of chemistry. [Pg.72]

Step 3. Read about the radiochemistry of iodine to improve your understanding of the radioanalytical chemistry of iodine. An old but helpful monograph is Radio chemistry of Iodine, NAS-NS-3062, by Milton Kahn and Jacob Kleinberg, Office of Scientific and Technical Information, US DOE, 103 pp (1977). A copy may be obtained from the instructor, the library, or internet search. Also read about ion-exchange theory and practice, and in particular, the relative affinity of anions for strong-base ion-exchange material. [Pg.94]

In October 1929, DuPont signed a patents and process agreement with ICI to exchange scientific and technical information on a routine basis , which was effective until 1948, when the US Department of Justice brought anlitrast pressures to bear, and it was cancelled (it was due to expire in 1949 anyway) [11]. [Pg.18]

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has the function to "foster the exchange of scientific and technical information", and "encourage and assist research on, and development and practical application of, atomic energy for peaceful uses throughout the world". [Pg.257]

During recent years (1997-2003), activities for the MBRU-12 were also stimulated by the exchange of scientific and technical information with companies in the Russian Federation and abroad currently developing concepts of sodium cooled fast reactors. Among them, mentioned should be the Ministry of Atomic Industry of Kazakhstan. [Pg.458]

Desiring to promote free trade in chemicals as well as international cooperation and exchange of scientific and technical information in the field of chemical activities for purposes not prohibited under this Convention in order to enhance the economic and technological development of all States Parties,... [Pg.4]

One of the objectives of the Convention as stipulated in its preamble is to promote free trade in chemicals as well as international cooperation and exchange of scientific and technical information in the field of chemical activities for purposes not prohibited under the Convention in order to enhance the economic and technological development of all States Parties. This fundamental objective of the Convention should be respected and embraced by all States Parties to the Convention. Any form of undermining, either in words or in action, of this overriding objective is considered by the Islamic Republic of Iran a grave breach of the provisions of the Convention. [Pg.103]

Reaffirms its determination to promote the fidl implementation of Article XI as it relates, inter alia, to the fullest possible exchange of chemicals, equipment, and scientific and technical information on the development and appHcation of chemistry for purposes not prohibited under the Convention, subject to the provisions of the Convention and without prejudice to the principles and applicable rules of international law ... [Pg.462]

Recently, the work towards elaboration of the RBEC-M concept was stimulated by the exchange of scientific and technical information with the domestic and foreign organizations developing new reactors with liquid heavy metal coolants. In particular, the French Commissariat a I Energie Atomique (CEA) and the Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Institute (JNC) could be mentioned in this context. [Pg.66]

CERI is the focal point for the exchange of scientific and technical environmental information produced by the Office of Research and Development (ORD), its 12 research laboratories, and associated programs nationwide. Hours 8 00 a.m. - 4 30p.m., Monday - Friday EST,... [Pg.285]

Barriers Participants noted many barriers to timely and effective information exchange and suggested approaches for reducing such barriers. For example, information must be provided in a way that is easily understandable. In scientific research, it is generally considered to be important to thoroughly explain the complexity of what is examined and to clarify levels of uncertainty. Technical jargon is used to thoroughly ensure that the complex issues are properly understood by other scientists. In contrast, decision makers tend to want information that is concise, clear, accurate, relevant, transparent, and readily understandable. They can be uncomfortable with uncertainty. Scientists also need to clarify information as to whether it is based on scientific consensus vs. professional opinion. [Pg.21]
