The 15W40 or 15W50 oils are the most widespread in temperate climates (Western Europe), while the 20W40 or 20W50 oils are used in relatively warm climates (Mediterranean countries. Middle East, South America). The 5W or lOW grades are used in countries having severe winters such as Scandinavia and Canada. [Pg.277]

The near drum corrosion problem is relatively newly identified in Scandinavia. This paper presents the experience from many years of inspections in North America. [Pg.1032]

L. Scandia, Scandinavia) On the basis of the Periodic System, Mendeleev predicted the existence of ekaboron, which would have an atomic weight between 40 of calcium and 48 of htanium. [Pg.49]

The element was discovered by Nilson in 1878 in the minerals euxenite and gadolinite, which had not yet been found anywhere except in Scandinavia. By processing 10 kg of euxenite and other residues of rare-earth minerals, Nilson was able to prepare about 2g of highly pure scandium oxide. Later scientists pointed out that Nilson s scandium was idenhcal with Mendeleev s ekaboron. [Pg.49]

Scandium is apparently much more abundant (the 23rd most) in the sun and certain stars than on earth (the 50th most abundant). It is widely distributed on earth, occurring in very minute quantities in over 800 mineral species. The blue color of beryl (aquamarine variety) is said to be due to scandium. It occurs as a principal component in the rare mineral thortveihte, found in Scandinavia and Malagasy. It is also found in the residues remaining after the extrachon of tungsten from Zinnwald wolframite, and in wiikite and bazzite. [Pg.49]

Others. The only top-fermented beer ia Scandinavia is Hvidt Lp. it has a low alcohol content (2.6% vol), a high level of extract, and is very mildly hopped. Smoke Beer is manufactured ia Germany and Denmark. It is made entirely from malt that is dried by direct beechwood fumes. In Denmark it is called Skibs Lp. (Ships Beer) and for centuries was iatended for consumption ia the Danish Navy and Marines siace it had better keeping quahties than the ordinary beers. It is top-fermented with low alcohoHc content. [Pg.13]

No particular contact lens type or product is considered universally superior. In some regions of the world hard lenses dominate the market, eg, some European countries and Japan in other regions, eg. North America and Scandinavia, soft lenses dominate. Contact lens practitioners select their preferred type of lens using criteria other than just lens material properties. However, among soft lenses, HEMA-based lenses are prescribed most often, and among hard lenses, siUcone—acrylate RGP lenses are most common. [Pg.99]

Acid rain is the popular term for a very complex environmental problem. Over the past 25 years, evidence has accumulated on changes in aquatic life and soil pH in Scandinavia, Canada, and the northeastern United States. Many believe that these changes are caused by acidic deposition traceable to pollutant acid precursors that result from the burning of fossil fuels. Acid rain is only one component of acidic deposition, a more appropriate description of this phenomenon. Acidic deposition is the combined total of wet and dry deposition, with wet acidic deposition being commonly referred to as acid rain. [Pg.149]

Dried casein in normally imported into Great Britain largely from New Zealand and to some extent France and Scandinavia. Some typical properties of the proteins as imported are shown in Table 30.1. [Pg.856]

The two most important minerals of titanium are ilmenite (FeTi03) and rutile (Ti02). The former is a black sandy material mined in Canada, the USA, Australia, Scandinavia and Malaysia, while the latter is mined principally in Australia. Zirconium s main minerals are zircon (ZrSi04)... [Pg.955]

Research is needed to quantify and assess data sets on pools and fluxes of subfossil carbon for North America, Scandinavia, and the Soviet Union where large amounts of such material exists and is vulnerable to accelerated decomposition with expected C02-induced climate change 66-69). Billings et al. 70, 71) performed fleld experiments that mimicked the changes expected to occur in the tundra as a result of climatic change. The direction of CO2 flux was reversed from a net storage of 150 g C02 m -season to a net release of 300-400 g C02 m" season . Annual liberation of as little as 1% per year of either the 300 Pg C stored in the top meter of soils above the 60° latitude band or... [Pg.406]
