Saturated carbon dioxide

Some values of physical properties of CO2 appear in Table 1. An excellent pressure—enthalpy diagram (a large Mohier diagram) over 260 to 773 K and 70—20,000 kPa (10—2,900 psi) is available (1). The thermodynamic properties of saturated carbon dioxide vapor and Hquid from 178 to the critical point,... [Pg.18]

Carbon dioxide, the final oxidation product of carbon, is not very reactive at ordinary temperatures. However, in water solution it forms carbonic acid [463-79-6] H2CO2, which forms salts and esters through the typical reactions of a weak acid. The first ionization constant is 3.5 x 10 at 291 K the second is 4.4 x 10 at 298 K. The pH of saturated carbon dioxide solutions varies from 3.7 at 101 kPa (1 atm) to 3.2 at 2,370 kPa (23.4 atm). A soHd hydrate [27592-78-5] 8H20, separates from aqueous solutions of carbon dioxide that are chilled at elevated pressures. [Pg.19]

In the processing of formoterol fumarate by means of the SEDS technique (31), totally amorphous material was obtained when dry carbon dioxide was used as the antisolvent, while the use of water-saturated carbon dioxide afforded a mixture of amorphous formoterol fumarate and crystalline dihydrate form. [Pg.307]

By 1985 the SCF community had developed and accumulated substantial combined knowledge in fundamental behavior, application, and production. But when this paper was published, it resulted in some discussion and confusion within the community. It was our opinion at that time that the sodium salt of p-nitrophenyl phosphoric acid could not dissolve in supercritical carbon dioxide, and this opinion was later confirmed in tests on the solubility of the sodium salt of p-nitrophenyl phosphoric acid. Krukonis and Hammond carried out tests to measure the solubility of the salt in dry carbon dioxide and to investigate if there could be some cosolvent effect of water in water-saturated carbon dioxide. They found that the solubility was virtually nil, i.e., the salt could not be detected by UV analysis of the extracts in the collection vessel, and there was no visible extract. On the basis of the insolubility of the salt in dry or wet carbon dioxide from the solubility tests, the authors... [Pg.312]

At temperatures and pressures below the triple point, carbon dioxide may be either a solid (dry ice) or a gas, depending upon temperature conditions. Solid carbon dioxide at a temperature of -109.3°F ( 78.5°C) and 1 atmosphere transforms directly to a gas (sublimes without passing through the liquid phase). Lower temperatures will result if solid carbon dioxide sublimes at pressures less than atmospheric. Thermodynamic properties of saturated carbon dioxide in the solid, liquid, and vapor phases are given in Tables 1A and IB. [Pg.298]
