Satellite trucks

Satellite Trucks and Portable Satellites. Trucks equipped with electrical generators to provide the power for an attached satellite have found applications for mobile transmission of news, especially after natural disasters. Some of these portable satellites use the G-band frequency for the transmission of information via the uplink process, which requires rather large antennas, whereas other portable satellites were developed in the 1980 s to use the band for transmission of information. [Pg.383]

Figure 5.37 depicts the basic set up of a wireline logging operation. A sonde is lowered downhole after the drill string has been removed. The sonde is connected via an insulated and reinforced electrical cable to a winch unit at the surface. At a speed of about 600m per hour the cable Is spooled upward and the sonde continuously records formation properties like natural gamma ray radiation, formation resistivity or formation density. The measured data is sent through the cable and is recorded and processed in a sophisticated logging unita the surface. Offshore, this unit will be located in a cabin, while on land it is truck mounted. In either situation data can be transmitted in real time via satellite to company headquarters if required. [Pg.131]

When designing a mobile radiological unit one has to take into account different scenarios and tasks. Options for the design of mobile radiological units include satellite, helicopter, boat, train, truck, car, robots, portable devices. [Pg.453]

Moreover, information access in real-time resulting from processes such as, for example, checkout counter bar code scanning and satellite location of trucks, fostered mark reductions in delivery lead times on all sorts of goods, from books to capital equipment. This, in turn, has reduced the overall capital structure required to turn out our goods and services, and, as a consequence, has apparently added to growth of multifactor productivity, and thus to labor productivity acceleration. [Pg.347]

This resin predominates in boat building. It exhibits excellent resistance to all types of water, including seawater. For the most part, these resins find application in building panels, boats, radomes, television satellite dishes, tote boxes, fishing poles, building materials, car and truck bodies, and any application where exposure is confined to ambient conditions. [Pg.161]

Furthermore, the choices made by the owners of the system (governments, ministries, other countries, etc.) create the humanitarian space in which the relief efforts have to operate. In addition, information may be local and decentralized (e.g., local security, truck rates, contracts, quality of service) or centralized (e.g., weather conditions, road network, satellite images). The resources may be available centrally or donated by agencies and operated by private agents, the military, or individual relief agencies. [Pg.160]

The city Q is the home of T and is a major industrial city north of Mexico City. T is a division of a major U.S. manufacturer that employs approximately 6,000 people. It is a discrete manufacturer (both fabrication and assembly) of transmissions for automobiles, buses, and small trucks. It also has a small satellite facility a few blocks away that produces forklifts and front-end loaders. [Pg.107]

Another case from the US is provided by the chain of retail fashion stores, The Limited. Each of the several thousand stores in the chain tracks consumer preferences daily using their point-of-sale data. Based upon this, orders are sent by satellite links to the suppliers around the world. Using Hong Kong as a consolidation centre, goods are flown back to The Limited s distribution centre in Columbus, Ohio. At the distribution centre the goods are price-marked and re-sorted for immediate onward shipment by truck and plane to the retail stores. The whole cycle from reorder to in-store display can be achieved in six weeks. Conventional systems take more like six months. [Pg.153]

As the longitudes of two extreme GEO satelbtes are 058,75° E and 160° E, the trucks of sub-sateUite points for 3 IGSO satellites are coincided and the longitude of the intersection points is 118° E, BeiDou system currently provides positioning data between longitude 055° E to 180° E and from latitude 55° S to 55° N. This area includes China territory entirely longitude of this country from 073°E to 135° E, latitude from 18° N to 53° N. [Pg.229]

The domestic satellite LNG facilities mentioned above use extensive trucking. Hundreds of trucks a day are used to safely transport LNG over the highways. [Pg.3]
