Satellite technique

Another useful technique for eliciting underlying EMS is known as the satellite technique . The patient is asked to identify five important things about their past. The therapist and the patient then work together to identify one theme common to all five things identified. This can also be used as a homework exercise and if the patient doesn t come back with a central theme it can form the basis for the next therapy session. An example of this is illustrated in Figure 14.1. [Pg.179]

Whether on land or offshore, the principle of satellite development is the same. A new field is accessed with wells, and an export link is installed to the existing (host) facility. Development is not always easier on land, as environmental restrictions mean that some onshore fields have to be developed using directional drilling techniques (originally associated with offshore developments). A vertical well can be drilled offshore away from the host facility, and the well completed using a subsea wellhead. [Pg.362]

The C4 stream from steam crackers, unlike its counterpart from a refinery, contains about 45% butadiene by weight. Steam crackers that process significant amounts of Hquid feedstocks have satellite faciUties to recover butadiene from the stream. Conventional distillation techniques are not feasible because the relative volatihty of the chemicals in this stream is very close. Butadiene and butylenes are separated by extractive distillation using polar solvents. [Pg.367]

Nickel-Hydrogen, Nickel-Iron, and Nickel-Metal Hydride. First developed for communication satellites in the early 1970s, nickel-hydrogen batteries are durable, require low maintenance, and have a long life expectancy. The major disadvantage is the high initial cost. For these batteries to be a viable option for electric vehicles, mass production techniques will have to be developed to reduce the cost. [Pg.123]

The relationship between the main subsystems and other minor systems is illustrated schematically in Figure 12.4. This places management at the core of the quality system, with the other systems arranged as major and minor satellites that revolve around it. This perspective provides the basis for the Quality System Inspection Technique (QSIT), which the FDA uses for auditing medical device facilities. This is based on a top-down approach, which starts with management controls and then looks at three other key subsystems of Design Controls, Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA) and Production and Process Controls. The belief is that by focussing on just these four subsystems, you will actually touch on all the other subsystems and obtain a sufficiently satisfactory overview of the state of compliance of the facility. [Pg.248]

When a molecule exhibits large internal motions difficulties arise in using most available techniques for the determination of molecular geometry. In a study of 2,2 -biselenophene it was shown that although internal motion is present, useful structural information can still be obtained in the liquid crystal phase and that, at present, other techniques are not available for obtaining equivalent information, at least not in a liquid-like phase.13 This study also demonstrates the usefulness of the heteroatom satellites, and in particular of Se—H dipolar couplings. [Pg.130]

Recently, Razumovskid441 studied the shape of drops, and satellite droplets formed by forced capillary breakup of a liquid jet. On the basis of an instability analysis, Teng et al.[442] derived a simple equation for the prediction of droplet size from the breakup of cylindrical liquid jets at low-velocities. The equation correlates droplet size to a modified Ohnesorge number, and is applicable to both liquid-in-liquid, and liquid-in-gas jets of Newtonian or non-Newtonian fluids. Yamane et al.[439] measured Sauter mean diameter, and air-entrainment characteristics of non-evaporating unsteady dense sprays by means of an image analysis technique which uses an instantaneous shadow picture of the spray and amount of injected fuel. Influences of injection pressure and ambient gas density on the Sauter mean diameter and air entrainment were investigated parametrically. An empirical equation for the Sauter mean diameter was proposed based on a dimensionless analysis of the experimental results. It was indicated that the Sauter mean diameter decreases with an increase in injection pressure and a decrease in ambient gas density. It was also shown that the air-entrainment characteristics can be predicted from the quasi-steady jet theory. [Pg.257]
