Sandwich components, assembly

An spontaneous assembly of 15 components is reported in the synthesis of [Ag9L6](OTf)9 where L is the hexadentate, tris-chelating 6,6-bis[2-(6-methylpyridine)]-3j3 -bipyrazine. The structure consists of a 3x3 grid of Ag-atoms (average Ag" Ag = 3.72(3)A), sandwiched between two almost perpendicular sets of three parallel L ligands (Figure 10).641... [Pg.941]

Diffusion Cells. The two chamber diffusion cells (9) were assembled by a No. 18 spring clamp with the hairless mouse3skin sandwiched in between. The volume of each half cell was 2.0 cm. An 8 mm stirrer made of stainless steel and equipped with a small teflon propeller was driven by a 150 rpm constant speed motor (Hurst, Princeton, IN) was utilized for stirring. The assembled cell was then immersed in a 37°C heated water bath (Haake, Karlsruhe, W. Germany), so that the stirring and sampling ports were the only components above the water surface. The diffusion cell was kept for 10 minutes in the water bath to allow temperature equilibrium prior to any experiment. Then ethanol/saline mixtures preheated to 37°C were pipetted into the cell to start an experiment. [Pg.233]

Studies of the interaction of lanthanide cations with multivacant lacunary tungstates have shown that a variety of composite polyoxoanions are formed. There is currently no end in sight to the range of compositions and structures possible. Although fairly simple sandwich complexes are formed (Table 14) with A-[XW.,034]", more elaborate assemblies have been produced, especially from precursors such as B-[XniW9033]9-, or directly from the components, e.g., As033-.WC)42, and Ln3+. Table 24 lists some structurally characterized behemoths that have been shown to possess solution integrity by NMR spectroscopy. [Pg.659]

A large cell unit like the Asahi Chemical Co. bipolar cell Figure 15 is made of metal. The partition wall is an explosion bonded titanium to steel sandwich. The anode compartment is lined with titanium and the cathode compartment is steel. Metal components allow cell operation at 90°C while maintaining the high mechanical accuracy of the cell. Anodes and cathodes with an individual area of 2.7 m are assembled into units containing up to 80 cells with a distance between the two electrodes in the range of 2-3 mm. Ohmic drops in the catholyte and anolyte are thereby minimized. Electrolytic power consumption of the Ashai Chemical Co. cell is shown in Figure 16 (67). [Pg.348]

In the bisporphyrin sandwich compound [ Ru(TPP)(CO) 2(/a-PBI)] (16) (Fig. 20), two rutheniiun porphyrins are axially boimd in a side-to-face fashion to a central PBl chromophore. The photophysics has been studied in dichloromethane (where the assembly is stable at concentrations > 2 X 10 M) [84]. As expected, the absorption spectriun of 16 corresponds very closely to the sum of those of its molecular components (Fig. 34). [Pg.137]

When the coordination bonds that hold these assemblies together are both stable and inert, their formation from the components occurs under kinetic rather than thermodynamic control and it is thus disputable if they can be truly defined as supramolecular systems. On the other hand, owing to their kinetic stability, some of these species can be further exploited as building blocks in the construction of higher order architectures through a hierarchical self-assembly approach (see for example the molecular sandwiches 13-15). Through this modular approach, multichromophore systems become easily accessible on demand, with a limited synthetic effort. [Pg.140]

In present-day high-speed assembly line operations, adhesives are applied robotically. The adhesive bead is apphed quickly and evenly to parts on a conveyor line just prior to being fitted. These operations, especially the need to handle the adhered substrates soon after assembly, demand fast-curing adhesive systems [65]. Two-component adhesives are used to bond metals to plastics in automobiles, to laminate panels in the construction industry, to laminate foams to textiles, to laminate plastic films together, and to bond poly(vinyhdene chloride) films to wood for furniture. A commercial waterborne two-component adhesive is sold by Ashland under the trademark ISOSET. This system is used for exterior sandwich panels by recreational vehicle manufacturers and is composed of a water-emulsiliable isocyanate and a hydroxy-functionalized emulsion latex. [Pg.707]

The conductivities of these species (Table 13.15) are better than those of the individual components, but the low values observed are consistent with weak interactions between both sandwich complexes. These low values may also reflect the distortion of the porphyrin macrocycles in this type of assembly, and the steric hindrance of the ethyl substituents at the periphery of the macrocycles. [Pg.691]

Such a panel of solar cells is encapsulated by pol5rmeric encap-sulants to form a solar cell assembly. This assembly may be further sandwiched between two protective outer layers to form a weather resistant module. The protective outer layers are formed from sufficiently transparent material to allow photons to reach the solar cells. In modules, where PVB is used as the encapsulant material, it has been foimd that the PVB tends to discolor over time, when in contact with an oxidizable metal component. [Pg.56]

The main components of a PAFC are bipolar plates, gas diffusion layers, catalyst layers, and matrix layer [3]. Typical cell designs include a sandwich of these layers as arranged in Fig. 12.2 between coolers. Multiple cells per cooler designs are generally employed to improve power density and this unit is called a sub stack. A cell stack assembly consists of multiple sub stacks held between two pressure plates tmder compression to minimize reactant leakage and contact resistance losses. [Pg.374]
